Traveling to New Jersey

If you are a CCW holder or just have a pistol in your camper and are going to or thru New Jersey, you might want to think twice.
New Jersey does not recognize any other state CCA permits and if caught you will face a 3 year mandatory prison sentence. No plea bargaining, no reduction, as this woman is finding out after showing her D/L and CCW permit on a traffic stop.
I mention this because I know there are many of you that do carry.

If that is true, could you carry it in the Montana? That's in your home, not on your person.

NJ like several northeast states have draconian gun laws. If you do travel "thru" NJ or other states with these laws you are allowed to have transport as long as it is locked in a separate safe unloaded and the ammo is locked in a separate container. But the law says you should not stop. The federal laws allow this transportation. Before traveling always check the state laws as they change and use common sense.

I would agree that no matter what the state law is you could still have it inside your "home". As far as I know Illinois was the last state to pass a CCL and they are extremely restrictive.

Here is the state law for New Jersey for transporting a firearm in or thru the state.
http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_trans.html

Here is a site that has the Conceal Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps that you can check to see where you can and can't carry, and this can change so it is best to keep checking if you travel.

Thanks for the heads up... but I won't be risking this type of problem . I NEVER intend to set foot in New Jersey ever again. No offense intended to New Jersey folks.

Jay as a former resident of the People's Republic of New Germany no offense taken. You are not missing much although there are beautiful parts of the state the cons out weigh the pros at this point.

The Feds or all states need to come up with a CCW permit to will be strict enough to control who can carry and still let law abiding citizen carry a gun where and when they want.

My wife and I were born in NJ and spent our first 20 years growing up there ( withthe last 45 years elsewhere). We still have friends and relatives "imprisoned" there. I say all this because I still consider myself an EXPERT on NJ, and if you carry and need to go to NJ you should listen to an expert's advice. Don't do it!!!

Since the 2nd amendment to the constitution is part of a federal document, I would like to see a nationwide federal solution. JMHO and not a political statement of any kind.

When we are in states that don't honor my CCW my guns are left in there compartments in the bedroom. I don't tell whether I'm asked or not so it shouldn't be a problem and they better not come looking without a warrant which will be hard to get as long as I don't tell.

they have been working on a national CCW law for some time without much success. One of the holdups is that there is little conformity among the Stares that have the CCW in terms of qualifications and training. Of course we do not want the Federal Government to get involved.
