Another one bites the dust...

Sad to see major players in this industry close their doors.

Van Leigh this time...who's next?

I never knew Tiffen made a towable.

Started in 2014, so a relative new comer for towables. And they are (were?) higher end, meaning higher priced models with some models priced well over $150,000. Not sure that was a good business model from the start.

Apparently Vanleigh didn't get the word they are shutting down. There is a very detailed six page article on their 5th wheel model 42 RBD Beacon in the Feb 23 FMCA magazine....now called "Family RVing." It's pretty well loaded and has some big numbers: length 42'6", GVWR 18,500, MSRP $174,293, price as tested $188,122.

Announcement was made in mid Jan so that issue of the magazine was probably already printed and distributed. Announced closing date is in March.

Tiffin announced a few weeks ago that they were getting out of the towable market.
I went through some Beacons and Vilanos at the Ft Myers RV show this past weekend.
Fairly robust with big frames, high gvwr’s, disk brakes and 17.5” wheels but the fit and finish was entry level. I was shocked. And shame on the dealers that were presenting them, cabinet and closet doors didn’t line up and a couple didn’t close right.
They are all the same. It’s all about the dealer that should be finishing the build before the customers see the rigs.

Just remember that Tiffin is now owned by...........THOR
so what do you expect.
Independents are slowly being bought up and reorganized.

We were looking at the Vanleigh, before we stumbled across our Montana. I really liked their trailers. Sad to see that line go bye bye.

Scuttlebutt is that Alliance RV may be the next one to go.

Googling Alliance RV reviews problems brings up some less than complimentary postings about Alliance build quality.

Wow, very sad. They were definitely leaders in the luxury 5th wheel industry. Fist one to come our with double vanity in bathrooms.

Unhappy

I'm glad I won't be buying any new 5th wheels in the future including Montana brands. My 2010 Montana 3000RK will be the last RV I will own. Too many complaints from all the brands and the quality isn't there anymore on any of them. Probably only about 5 more years of RVing. I'm 75 now and don't know how many more years left if only short trips. Will really miss our short trips and motels won't cut it. Maybe cabins at state and private parks after RVing.

I am right there with you (76). A couple of years ago I figured good until 80. Small things going downhill, so now I am HOPING for 80! I still travel around 8-10,000 miles a year. Have relatives in Montana/Wyoming and daughter married to Army guy and been in Fayettville, Fort Knox, El Paso, and Hawaii in last 10 years. Had to travel to all but Hawaii with rig at least once a year. I guess we need to just hang in and last as long as we can!
Also just dropped $13K with new roof and several frame flex things last fall, so this rig will hopefully last until it hang it up.
