How is General Delivery in Quartzite?

Has anyone had any experience receiving a package in Q?

Google search has one guy recommend sending mail/packages to Blythe P.O.

Any thoughts on this?

General Delivery can be a major pain in Quartzsite. The Postal Service built a nice facility for General Delivery near the Library. Unfortunately it was closed after one year due to a lack of staff (at least that is their story). Now they have limited hours of operation for General Delivery at the Post Office off Main (the next street east of Hwy-95) and the lines can be very long.

You will have better service at Bouse. They don't have near the crowd of snowbirds. Usually there is no one in line.

Thanks for the information. I suspect that the question arises because of our late receipt of LED's from the manufacturer and our subsequent inability to get them to MOC members prior to their departure for Q.

In our previous years' experience, we have had no problems receiving mail General Delivery at a Post Office when sent USPS Priority Mail with Tracking Information. With the tracking number, we know that it is at the Post Office when a Delivery Attempt is made.

If another Post Office in the area is better, please let us know! We sure want to get our members' LED's to them while at Q!

Thanks again,

The post office in Q does function, it just gets overwhelmed by all the folks who try to use it. As I recall, they are only open (for General Delivery) for a four hour period daily (M-F). The normal line wait is one to two hours. The wait may be tolerable if you *KNOW* something is there waiting for you. But waiting that long to find your package has not arrived and you get to repeat the fun is discouraging.

Bouse is only 20 miles away (we camp 9.8 miles from Q so Bouse really isn't much further than going to Q). Another option is Parker, AZ which is ~25 miles away and has major grocery stores. Maybe a great opportunity to have lunch, see a movie, get groceries and pick up the mail. Either location is closer than Blythe.

Good point regarding Bouse. Again, with tracking to General Delivery, when the USPS web site states Failed Delivery Attempt, it means that it is at the Post Office.

After a bad experience and rude personnel in Q we go to Bouse. The people there are friendly and they don't have restrictive General Delivery hours. I usually give them 2-3 hours in the morning to get the mail sorted. As Michael stated above, if you are tracking to General Delivery and it shows "failed delivery attempt" it is at the post office.

We only used Quartzite general delivery once -- in 2003. Never again. The line wait is worst than waiting in line for meals at the mess hall during basic training!

We used Bouse last year and experience was good.

Cept, watch for that ketchup wannabe tomato sauce they use in the local restaurant in Bouse! Ewwww, it was awful.

No, seriously, Bouse was quiet, delightful, cute little museum.

(Thanks to Nita and Al for the hint last year to use Bouse.)

We use Blythe. It's not really that far, and you probably want to do some shopping or have lunch anyway. Q is an exercise in frustration.

Bill and Mariana,
I apologize for not finding this post earlier. We used the Parker General Delivery...worked out great, and no line at all during the Q Rally, glad to hear you used the same source.
