Accident

I own a 2019 Ram 3500 dually long bed. On Friday morning I was driving to work when I was struck on the driver's side rear dual wheels by a guy that ran a red light. The impact of the accident spun me from facing south to northeast and knocked my whole truck about 35 feet into a median sign.
Several people stopped to help me and one noticed that the other driver exited his car, stood around for a few seconds then took of running. I was in shock from the impact and still catching my breath when this guy chased him about 500 yards and held him for the police.
Just to give you perspective, the guy that hit me said he was running from the devil and explosions. He also said he thought he was going 89 MPH.
Pretty sore from the impact. Going for an MRI on the shoulder on Monday.

See attached photos. Sorry for the photos not being orientated correctly.

Glad you are OK. The soreness should hopefully disappear soon.

As for the guy who hit you, hope he's insured and gets treatment for his mental difficulties. You have just experienced one of my worst nightmares - a nut case or a drunk/drug user hitting me.

A split second difference would have been a T bone to the door. Hope you end up ok. The dude had enough sense to run to avoid police, he knows what he's doing wrong. It happens all the time in CA for obvious reasons.

I had the same thing happen last year. The light turned green and I pulled out without looking both ways like I almost always do. A young girl had just got out of school a half mile away wasn’t looking and bam she tboned me. No one was hurt. I told her it was no big deal Ford would make hundreds of thousands of pickups this year but the tears were still streaming down her face. I went to court and told the judge she was a wonderful young lady and ask that the charges be dismissed. The judge did after 6 months.

Thanks for all the replies. I agree with them all. Lucky to be typing right now. The soreness will go away. I feel pretty confident everything will work out in the end.
Normally I'm on here just to learn from each of you, which I appreciate greatly.

Everyone stay safe!

Thankfully you are OK. Seems you just can't be too careful anymore. As Dave W said, this is one of my fears as well. Soreness should go away soon hopefully. For all I hope this is a reminder of what can happen at an intersection anymore. My BIL (pastor) was taking his 2 young grandsons to church one Sunday evening at the end of last summer when a 27 year old (intoxicated) ran a red light as my BIL crossed. Hit him broadside at 75mph with a 1/2 ton in the driver door. He didn't survive(small sedan) but miraculously the 2 small boys only received minor injuries (other than the mental trauma). So be careful out there.....seems it's getting worse.

I agree with everyone, that thank god you are ok (now). DO NOT SETTLE with their insurance company until you have been fully checked out by your doctors. These things have tendencies to creep up on you. You feel fine now, but 2 months from now you all the sudden have back/neck, whatever, issues you never had before.

My grandson is a fireman/paramedic and he says the bigger your vehicle is, the better chance you have of surviving a crash. So glad you were able to walk away from the crash and good luck with your MRIs and CTs.

I was rear-ended a couple of years ago and after everything was repaired, the at fault driver's insurance company sent me a check for my loss in CarFax value caused by the collision.

about 12 years back a fool was doing 100 mph on a back country rd. hit me head on.
my 1999 F 250 was wasted, i did not even get a scratch. but the pain still hurts my back and rt foot ( left front tire was coming through the floor and rammed my foot and brake pedal to the dash).
so many out there should not be allowed to drive.
be safe and happy it was not worse.

That's the reason my dually is not only my tow vehicle but also my daily driver...Especially here in Florida. Between the old people and everyone texting I wouldn't drive anything smaller. Even if I ever sell my 5 Rver I will still drive a dually...

Glad you're ok. Did somebody catch that hit & run driver? Is the truck totalled?
