Disc Brakes

Have a 2011 Big Sky 3580 and am looking at changing the brakes to disc brakes. Am near Sacramento Ca . Anyone had this done around here? Who would you suggest to do the job? Were you happy with the work? Cost?

Hi

We had considered doing that but Dexter said the axels used by Keystone on our trailer wouldn’t accept disk brakes.

When considering disk brakes, axles, springs and spring hangers must be evaluated. Can they handle the increased torque/stress. I would have IS installed with disk brakes.

I have installed titan disk brakes, purchased at the Feb 2014 RV show in Houston. Cost was around $1600.00, plus installation. Kit comes complete with all parts needed to convert. Our 2011 3100RL was equipped with 6k axles and had 7k self adjusting electric brakes. No problem in the conversion. Kit came with need bearings, 13" hubs, etc. Hard part is running the Hydraulic lines. I paid $700.00 to have the whole thing installed. Kit comes with Titan Electric over Hydraulic actuator. Once installed, our existing Ram 2011, factory brake controller recognized the actuator and works fine.

I haven't done it (yet). Besides your local dealer, Allied Trailer on West El Camino in Sacramento is an option They have done a lot of work for us and friends. They upgraded the axles on the previous RV for me and I was pleased with the work. They repaired my sister's Laredo after a tire let go and shredded the floor, 120V, 12V, and water lines. They seem equipped to handle just about any repair/modification.

Is their a big difference in how well the disc will handle a quick stop compared to drums? My drums on 2012 3402rl won't even lock up hardly on gravel.

How much difference is their for emergency type stoppping with rotors, Because I've had a situation before and I was not impressed with stopping distance with drums...
2012 3402rl. Will hardly even brake enough to turn lose gravel. I do have 7000 lb axles.
