Which road from the east?

I'm planning my trip to the Western rally using RV Trip Wizard. From North Carolina, it's basically get on I-40 3 miles from my house and drive all the way out.

I figured that the route would be take I-17 in Flagstaff down to Camp Verde, but RV Trip Wizard suggested in Winslow to take AZ-87 to AZ-260 into Camp Verde.

It looks scenic and a little curvy. What do the folks familiar with the area say??

I have towed AZ-260. It is fine. I suspect AZ-87 is fine too, although I haven't towed on it (I think I have driven on it). It will be more scenic than the Interstate.

Thanks, I'll will have done 2000 miles of interstate by then so maybe a scenic drive for the last 100 miles will be nice change.

After looking more at the map, I have towed on AZ-87. But it was the portion from Phoenix to Payson where it becomes AZ-260. The AZ-87 coming south(ish) from Winslow intersects AZ-260 further up the road. I would not be concerned at all about towing on AZ-87.

Another option for scenic is from Wigwam; south on AZ-77 to AZ-377 to AZ-277 to AZ-260
*OR*
South on AZ-77 to AZ-260 in Show Low and then west to Camp Verde.

We stayed at Meteor Crater (between Winslow and Flagstaff AZ) and toured the area from there.
We drove from Flagstaff to Sedona via route -89A with the truck ONLY. Beautiful scenic route, but don't take an RV down it. The switchbacks will get you.

What switchbacks??????? LOL
I love 'em but not while towing. I think one of the NP in Utah, the entrance road has a switchback so tight, I had to back up and then finish the turn just with the truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure that is a map of AZ? Looks a lot like the roads in WV to me.

Jim,
And, depending on when you're traveling, obviously watch the weather. We've ended up detoured south along I-25 at Albuquerque because of snow and wind across the continental divide east of Gallup, NM. It can also get wintery up around Flagstaff, AZ - they have 5" of snow forecast this week! If you head south at Albuquerque, you'll end on I-10 to Phoenix then I-17 up to Camp Verde. Safe Travels!

I-40 to Flagstaff, then South on I-17 for about 52 miles, then exit on AZ-260, the RV Park is just off the exit. US-89A has a 40' prohibition on it due to the switch backs.

Oh, so you have been over the 'Oh my God Hill' in the Big Horns, huh? And it has been upgraded twice in my lifetime. Ah, the good ole days. I remember around 1958-60 counting the hairpins on this stretch. I think it had at least 17. Can't even drive it as a dirt road now tho. I tried last year, but barricaded.
