Example of why I dislike visiting dealerships
I needed a piece of Eternabond tape for a small roof repair project that a neighbor had going on. I happened to be slam out of my personal stash, so I went to a local RV dealer to buy a foot of 4" Eternabond. He says he will sell it by the foot, but it's sure got expensive from his supplier ... $17.50/ft expensive. I asked if he had his decimal in the wrong place ... he didn't, so I said I'd pass. I went online and printed out 3 different sources of Eternabond tape for @$1.50/ft and dropped it by his business today. He said I didn't understand his vendor setup nor how to run a business. I said I hope you understand I'll never darken the threshold to your business again. A 1200% markup is a bit much.

And these dealers wonder why they are losing business to internet based businesses. I realize they have overhead costs, but that is crazy.

Greed combined with what sounds like an arrogant attitude.

I can relate to the markup. I requested a quote from a Major vendor for a 1/2 in turnbuckle and the quote was $73. When I asked for a second quote for the turnbuckle with lock nuts and drilled so lock wire could be installed, the quote jumped up to $843. I kindly passed and drilled my own holes. Its a crazy world.

Another great example of why I get almost all my parts online. You can compare prices and usually find exactly what you need at a decent price.

Hi
It is happening in other industries also. Case wanted $850.00 for a seal kit for a power steering cylinder I had I manufactured for $58. JD wants $319 for a throttle cable I had it manufactured for $125. Cat wanted $2,000 for a spindle I got it for $450. A local tire dealer wanted $1,900 for a tractor tire I got it from his competitor for $1,000.
Do some checking before paying exorbitant prices it pays.

Or as simple as a special replacement light bulb for our home microwave. $28 at local appliance store. $5 from multiple places on line ($8-$9 with shipping).

I agree mostly about dealers wanting way too much markup on parts, but the other side is that most online outfits (Amazon included) have next to nothing in overhead compared to them per customer/sale. It's very much the same as how a new Walmart ends up driving all the nearby local businesses out. There's a great RV dealer & parts outfit not too far from us that's located in an unattractive building in an unattractive part of town, but has very good prices on just about everything. Their a bit hard to get to from where we live with traffic, but I try giving them all the business I can. Another one's closer and has a fairly new and spiffy building, but does the gouging thing.

Guess everything is in it together. We wanted a new grill, as I am building it in on the lanai/patio and was afraid soon as I built in the old one something would go wrong with it. Found the one we wanted, at Lowe's, $499.00. Neighbor said check out Sears Outlet, so went there and found the exact same grill, except add on burner was on the opposite side, actually the side I wanted it, for $239.00. Since Lowe's advertises same price match I went back. No deal, with the burner on the opposite side, its a different stock number. So went back to Sears Outlet, and got it and very happy with it, along with the 260 dollar savings I put into steaks and ribs. Incidently, if your in the market for a new grill, check out the CharBroil Infra-Red stainless, its a great grill. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie

Ken ... I reckon all experiences are different, but I'll not support the "family owned" business I started this thread about when they feel 1200% markup is the way to do business. I could care less if they know my name. Ha! Like all else ... a bad apple or two taints the whole tree. Buying online is becoming the norm and there's no turning back. Ask Sears and Macys about it.

Trekwood is Tiara RV sales. So its dealer prices except they order parts for Keystone products direct from Keystone.
Been there done that. If it something you want the specific OEM part to replace, that is a great source and usually faster (and cheaper from what I have beard for a dealer service manager) that ordering from Keystone directly (if you can).
my .02 cents worth.

So trekwood.com orders Keystone parts from Keystone and they are cheaper than buying from Keystone. Oh boy!

Hold it..Keystone does not make parts. When you place a order through Keystone they get it from the vendor .It is dealer to Keystone to vendor to keystone to dealer.
The Rv is a mass of vendor provided parts that Keystone Montana assembles.

I fully agree. Looked at an item recently on Trekwood.com and price seemed awfully high. Found exact same item at another on-line source for about half that.
