Getting a New Diesel Vehicle Today
But it won't pull much, 2K, and forget adding any pin weight. It's a VW Golf TDI diesel. Been on my "Bucket List" for a while and finally decided to make it happen.

I like my 04 TDI. We bought it Apr 07 and it did well with the 55 mile drive to work. Ours is automatic. I understand the manual gets a little better mileage. I did do a "vent-ect-mie" on the filler pipe which lets out a lot more trapped air. Check out Fred's TDICLUB WEB page. A great source of info like the MOC.
Congratulations. I get around 40 mpg and just changed the timing belt at 90K.

You are right not to try towing your Montana with it!

We picked up our TDI Jetta 2 months ago, we love it. we tried to get a 2011 but none were being made at VW or even on the assembly line so we got the 10. city driving we get 36 we havnt taken it on any long run, say from LA to Frisco I believe we will get about 45 mpg then. were happy we bought one, and you will to. what year did you get the 99.5 through 03 has a article in Diesel World March 2011 " Buy & Build it Cheap: VW TDI" is the topic, I have not read it yet so I cant tell you anything about it.

Great choice... We have a 2002 Golf TDi (270K) and 2006 Jetta TDi (130K).. both great cars and easy on the wallet. We plan to purchase the 2012 Passat TDi when they hit the streets this summer as we pass the Golf down to our 16 year old daughter..
Now if VW would only price the Touareg TDi within reach.. $50K ouch!

Don, It's a 2011 Golf TDI made in Germany. Got to say I sure like this car.
c214dick: Glad I could support your retirement and future. As I'm retired from the Army, I guess the Chinese are providing the $$$ for my monthly retirement.

I was tempted to get this, but my resistance & lack of money won out. I think it would be a great deal for someone else though.
