What is Geocaching??

Its a game or activity for some folks that don't have much of a real life (kind of like us). It involves hiding something (a treasure in their terms) and then having someone else find it using a GPS. I believe much of it started as a way for new GPS users to learn how to use their GPS.

So how do you play?

One player hides treasure and records the coordinates. Other players then search for the treasure using the coordinates. Not sure there are winners and losers and there are various options. You can find more by googling it.

Ok thanks, one more question. Are you guys doing this as a club? I mean does someone on this forum post the GPS numbers and other members are out looking? Sorry I've been reading old post back to 2013, I don't see how anyone knows where to start looking.

It's called a "Worldwide Treasure Hunt". You can get A free membership at geocaching.com. The wife and I have been doing it since 2002. The treasures are just trinkets. The real treasures are the places that the game takes you to. There are many sites and bits for history that the game will lead you to.

Geocaching is a fun way to spend time outdoors enjoying the search as well as using your GPS. My wife and I have done it many states, Canada, and Europe. It may be easier if you can find a friend or new friend who has experience. Hope you enjoy the experience.

There is normally a log book that you can enter some of your info in. Sometimes they are very difficult to find. Others are a lot easier. There is a rating system on level of difficulty.
It is a simple way to get out and explore and see new areas and enjoy nature at the same time.
Have a trinket to leave and replace one if you removed one. This way there is always something for someone else to find. Even if you don't take anything from the cache you can still leave something in return.

Carl n Susan, As I remember, I demo'd geocaching to the Western MOC Rally in Kerrville, Tx--I think that was 2010! Glad to see you are still having fun with a great activity for RVers!

Some people think Geocaching is "dumb and a waste of time" while others enjoy it as a great outdoor activity. Like a previous poster, I started Geocaching in 2002, and currently have 11,550 finds and have hidden about 210. I have found caches in Russia, Germany, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, Great Britain, Norway, The Netherlands, and more. I have also found caches in about half the states of the Unites States. Most caches today are small containers with a log book inside. You find it, sign the log, replace the cache, and then log onto GEOCACHING.COM to make a log/note on the cache page for that particular cache. Currently, there are over 3,000,000 active caches on our planet and there is an average of about 6,000,000 logs written each week. Since it started, there have been nearly 21,000,000 Caching Accounts created. You don't "win" at it any more than you can win at coin collecting, stamp collecting, hiking, camping or any other list of hobbies/sports/activities. The goal is in the DOING, and not the WINNING. One of my first caches took me to a Plaque that was placed on the spot where the Train Robbery scene was filmed for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." I would have never knows about the spot, in Durango, CO, without Geocaching. And for unusual caches, there is a Geocache on the International Space Station, there is a Geocache in a decommissioned Nuclear Power Plant, there is a Geocache on Mt. Everest, and many more unusual places. You can SCUBA dive for some, other's require rock climbing, some require multi day hikes/backpacking, and some maybe in the parking lot of the near by Wal Mart. Find 2 or 3, and see if you enjoy the "hunt." Because that is what is all about!

It can be fun and you will get to see some sites that you would otherwise never go too.

Wife and I have been doing it for many years and do enjoy it.

Some of the directions can be humorous I have one hidden at the end of my drive way and a lot of the finders get a kick out of my directions.

I have a 2015 ...3910 FB 5th wheel. The factory water pump is a flojet model 3526 and it is noisy. Anybody know of a QUIET replacement...

As this thread is about Geocaching you may not get the answers you seek. You would be better off starting a new topic in another category. As an aside, this topic has been discussed frequently here. A quick Search will list those discussions and solutions (isolate pump, foam wrap pipes, flex lines into and out of pump).
