chev duromax 2005 to 2007

Still helping son find T/V. Going to look at 3 chevy's 2005 to 2007, did carfax on all 3 and they,re all clean. No warrenty issues or acc/problems. All list some maint. Between 98,ooo and 130,000mi. Two are 4x4 and 1 is 4x2 at 6K less than others. Main location S. Central Pa. Comments greatly appreciated

Got a 2007 new body style here! It's a 2500HD but can handle the tow and the stopping of the Monte without any problems. I haven't driven the new Duramax yet but would like to see how it compares to present unit.

I have a 2007 classic 2500 DA. Now have 97, 000 miles on it, Around 35,000 towing the 3075 with Kayaks on roof and bicycles on the front bumper. In the first 18 months I had some minor problems. SInce then it has been a great TV! I would recommend it!
Only thing I would change is I would get a 3500 single rear wheel.

I too will say the 2006 & 2007 are the best Duramax trucks. I have a 05 with 80,000 mile that has never seen the inside of the dealers shop!

Are you looking at diesels?? If so, find out when the Allison tranny went from 5 speed to 6 speed, 2007?? The six speed is my choice if you are looking at a diesel. The 2007 Classic was my personal preference but I went with a dually 3500. To date, absolutely no problems, but then I have only 28,500 miles on it. I hurried up and bought the classic when they announced the dpf's were coming out in the new body style 2007's. Have not had second thoughts since then, good truck.

Personally, I would stay away from the Duramax LLY engines. They have some overheating problems pulling heavy over higher elevations. I think these engines models are in 2004.5 - 2005. There may be some in early 2006 models. Trust me I know and now pay a lot of attention to "passes" on routes taken with the Montana. My LLY is okay but have to watch closely. I followed a friend driving an '07 over a pass in Canada both of us pulling similar campers. My LLY had alarms going off and temp guage to the right and his was pulling away from me going up with no problems!

I would look for a 2006 or 2007 classic with the LBZ engine.The eighth didget in the vin will be D.It has the 6-speed Allison.With the 6-speed I haven't had a need for an exhaust brake.

We have an 07 Classic 3500, dually, diesel 6 speed auto trans, LBZ. Fantastic truck. When I bought it I was told that a 2500 would handle the Monty, but was borderline. We opted for the 3500 to remove any doubt. Since then we haul a 37' 3 horse trailer with living quarters which is heavier than the Monty. With three horses on board and water tank full we have been able to maintain highway speed everywhere we have gone.

Allison went to the six speed with the 06 year model. There are two 07 models. The 07 Classic is the same as the 06, both have the LBZ engine...the ONLY difference is that the title says 07. The new body 07 is just that and has the LMM engine. The LBZ will burn any type diesel, the LMM has all the new emission controls. I had the LBZ because I did not want the 'new' engine and did not want the emission controls. Great eng/trans combination.

Gotta go with the guys that recommend the LBZ engine. I had the LLY in the 04 GMC. Mine had lots of fan noise here in TX, can't imagine what would have gone on in the mountains pulling the fiver...well, really I can...it would have been puking anti-freeze.

With the mileage range you reference, you might be looking at "delivery" vehicles that may have been "road hard and put away wet!"

I have a 2006 2500 (pictured) LBZ, 6 speed Allison. It has just over 30,000 miles. I have been told that this is a high demand vehicle. I love it. It rides and drives remarkably well.

I have had some problems - transmission lines leaked, intermediate steering shaft replaced, and just last fall, a new turbocharger. All these problems were fixed under warranty. The turbocharger replacement cost me a $100 deductible.

The 06 has the 6 speed. I have an 05. It has got hot one time I took it to the dealer & found out the ERG (I think) was stopped up with carbon. They replaced it & told me to use an additive in the tank. I do.

We have had no problems with our 2005 diesel. 60000 miles on it
