Great Day!

Yesterday was a rather unique day for us in the area of sightseeing. In Salisbury, NC we visited the gravestie of James Reid's foot, Yep you read right. It seems that in 1893 an 88 year old gentleman was standing to near the railroad tracks and had a foot severed. Not wanting to just "Throw it away", he burined it in the "Old Lutheran Cemetary" in Salisbury, NC. He lived another 5 years and is buried in another cemetary. We then traveled to High-Point, NC for a photo op with the largest chest of drawers in the US. High Pont is a furniture making town and the chest of drawers used to be the visitor center. It stands about 40 feet tall and even has two socks hanging out a drawer. We then went to Winston-Salem to find the Shell gas station that has a large clamshell front about twenty feet high. Painted Shell Yellow it is no longer a working anything but still painted nicely.

These and other interesting places can be found on www.roadsideamerica.com for the truly "off the beaten path tourist spots".

Does anyone have another website with oddities along our hiways and byways. Many of these are "no cost sights" and usually just a photo op, but it helps pass the time without spending much (except for fuel)????????

Try putting it in your GPS
Offbeat Tourist Attractions POI Factory

Phil,
Also do a Google search on "offbeat tourist attractions" without the quotes.

Thanks for the link.
