North & South Carolina

Hey folks. The DW wants to go to N & S Carolina for awhile this spring and when I asked her what she wanted to do-the reply was "I want to be near water".

I mentioned something about going into the bathroom but that didn't fly,sooo-I need to know some interesting places and good campgrounds in these two states. We will start out from Colorado, through Amarillo,TX then East towards Charleston, SC and play it by ear from there. Probably intend to spend a couple of months exploring the area.

ANY and ALL information will be appreciated!

Thanks.......Allan

When you get to Charleston, SC try the county park, James Island. No right on the water but close and a very nice park.

About 2 hours north of Charleston is Myrtle Beach. There are 3 campgrounds right on the beach - Ocean Lakes, Lakewood, and Pirate Land. They are HUGE but I would recommend a reservation. My personal favorite is Lakewood.

Make sure you take the tour of Savana GA just over the SC Boarder

Three hours north of Myrtle Beach is our historic city of New Bern, NC. There is a very nice KOA on the Neuse River. Contact us, we'd love to show you around town and tell you about the sights in the area to see. From there, you can take the ferry to Okrakoke Island and then to Hattaras Island and see the lighthouses. Head north to Kitty Hawk and then west accross the bridge back to the mainland. On the way from Myrtle Beach you can stop and tour the battleship North Carolina in Wilmington.

Jim and Vickie We plan on a trip to the east coast in a year of so. I particularly want to visit Cherry Point MAS where we lived from summer of '53 to summer of '55 when my dad was stationed there.

If you like to play golf, we can play a round on their course.
I lived in Placerville for 20 years and have a daughter in San Clemente. we hope to do the west coast in a couple of years.
