New In The Club

Hi Everyone,
I’m Gunther and my wife is Sheri. Our furry child, Calvin the cat, accompanies us on our camping adventures. We’ve had a 1997 Hitchhiker II for the last 10 years and really enjoyed the times we could go camping. I ran a business for 47 years before I retired last June and had a hard time taking a lot of time off. My wife is an Electrical Engineer from Georgia Tech.and she worked in that industry for 15 years and then transitioned into the education world. She has taught the mush minds of our young adults in high school for the last 14 years here in Arlington, Texas where we live. With my retirement that gives us the summers to travel in our new 2020 3812 MS. Our Hitchhiker II was 31 ft long, but this 40 ft 9 inch Montana seems twice as long as what I was used to. It is big enough to live in full time, which might be an option in the future.
Anyway, I didn’t want to go on and on, but I guess our story can’t be told in a few words. Sorry for rambling on. I look forward to sharing our new adventures with ya’ll and likewise look forward to following your travels and tapping into the vast storehouse of knowledge available from all of you long time RVers

Welcome from a fellow Texan! I see pine trees in the pic of your rig - where in East Tx was that pic taken? DW and I grew up near Tyler.

Welcome!

I'm enjoying this forum more and more because its specific to Montana campers that is not necessarily so on other forums.

Lots of good information here.

Enjoy, and once again, Welcome.

Mikendebbie,
That was right in your old neighborhood at Lake Hawkins RV Park. We just love that place. They have a sandy beach and Liz and Ryan take such good care of the place. That’s our go to spot. Only takes 2 1/2 hours to get there from Arlington.
I see you are from Austin. We bought our 3812 up in Georgetown from Crestview.
Thanks for the welcome.

Jeffba,
Thanks for the welcome! You are going to have to tell me what the Latin phrase means. Something about a stick each day? The picture was taken at Lake Hawkins out by Tyler.

Full disclosure: we actually live north of Austin a few minutes from Crestview RV. Took my unit there for annual inspection last Saturday. I know Lake Hawkins well! My Dad was the superintendent of schools there in the mid-70s, so Hawkins was my home address while I was in college. Met DW there - she was a first grade teacher.

Per chance do you live in Sun City? My wife and I are thinking of relocating there after she retires. Her sister and husband live in Sun City and we really like the area. We have actually looked at model homes there. Our favorite is the Abbeyville model.
We went camping at Jim Hogg a couple of years ago over Thanksgiving. Small world, huh?

Jritz,
Thank you, and safe travels to you also. You are going to love this forum. I have been on owner forums before, but these guys have a level of expertise that makes me feel like the dumbest guy in the room. That doesn’t put the bar very high now as I think of it. Let’s just say, it’s like having service techs at your disposal all the time. Enjoy!!
