Backup camera

I want to install a backup camera on my 2020 High Country 385BR. It came pre-wired for the camera so it should be an easy plug and play. My problem is I watched a video that said it would drain your batteries. What are your thoughts?

They drain the battery on your truck or the trailer. We have a back up camera and we have had no problem's with coming into a dead battery on the truck. The trailer is all ways plugged in even at the house when we are not using it, So I haven't had any problem from that.

I haven’t installed it yet but just heard it drains the battery. The video didn’t state whether it drained the truck battery or the trailer batteries. Video also said the camera power is always on Which is why it supposedly drains the battery. Saw where they installed a separate switch for the camera ( looked complicated) but I don’t want to do that.

If it’s wired like mine it’s only powered when hooked up to the truck and the lights are on. If the lights are off no camera. Never heard of draining the battery because of a back up camera, but hay you learn something everyday lol

Mine was wired to stay on all the time. That’s the way it came when I bought my rig. I installed a switch in my back overhead cabinet so I can turn it off when I’m not towing.

If the camera stays on constantly, it may also have a shorter life span. Ours will come on when I Turn the light switch from Auto to running lights. I don’t have battery issues because it comes off the truck harness for power.

Ours is the same. Comes on with the TV headlights/running lights. I do remember seeing a video when I first got ours where someone installed their system with direct power so they could use the cameras as security cameras when the RV is parked and detached from the TV. In that case, you could have an issue if you forget to turn them off. But that's not how they are wired from the factory, at least on any I've heard about.

I wired my Furion cameras to the RV batteries with an on/off switch in my power center. Obliviously I use my cameras when towing but I also use them as security cameras when camping. Either way the RV is always hooked up to power either from my truck when towing or campsite power when camping. I turn the cameras off when not using camper.

Cable tv

What’s the trick to getting my cable tv to work on a new High Country 385 BR? Campground maintenance hooked his tv up and it works fine. Can’t get any of my 4 TVs to work.

I think your issue is related to KeyTV system - which my 2018 does not have.
Try searching KeyTV for threads, or start a new thread with KeyTV in the title and you will get lots of replies and help. This thread is about backup cameras so it is possible that the folks that can help you are not looking here.

If you wire the camera to operate 100% of the time, it makes sense that it would drain the battery after a while. Many people wire the camera to the backup lights of the Monty so that it is on only when you are backing. Others chose to wire the camera to the running lights so that it is on any time the running lights are on. This approach would be useful if you want to monitor what is going on behind you while on the road. I wired my camera to the backup lights.
