Transfer switch

My 3121RL 2021 has a transfer switch but we don’t have or need a generator. The transfer switch has been replaced a few years ago but now is causing problems again.
Is there really a need to have it if no generator?

Nope there is no reason to keep a transfer switch without a generator.

Is your rig prepped for a generator? Do you have a residential fridge? Do you have an inverter?

I replaced mine because it served no purpose, with a hardwired Watchdog. Mine was not prepped for generator. When I use a generator I just connect it to the shore power cord.

If you're not going to install a generator you don't need the TS. You can direct connect the rig to shore power. The inverter is directly connected to the fridge so it doesn't come in to play.

GM, the reason they put that transfer switch in (I’m assuming you have a Legacy) is that it is the cheapest way they can put an EMS system in your unit. You originally had a Progressive Dynamics. Depending on when they replaced it, you either got another PD or a Southwire. So, to say it serves no purpose isn’t totally accurate. As Mike did, we replaced ours with the hardwired Watchdog EPO. We love it. Hope this helps.

They put the TS in because it's gen prepped.

My SS is not gen prepped. Had two TS’s. One is in the Magnum inverter and a second one solely because it had the EMS.

Tony, he said he doesn’t have or need a generator, can he just remove the transfer switch. My answer was yes, we did. Am I missing something? I also thought I was answering the question. I must be mistaken.

I did answer his question in post 2. Take the thing out and throw it away or disconnect it.
