Angry Cable Slide Motor

I've never posted on a forum but hopefully yall can help me. I have a 384BR High Country and the living room slide is giving me fits. I know I probably have to lubricate the rollers but the motor cuts out after about 10-15 seconds of operation and I can reuse after 20 seconds. I can hear a click when it cuts outs at about 20 second mark. Haven't had a chance to check to see if the motor is overheating or something else.

Sounds like an autoreset fuse. It's a problem many had with the hydralic slides until they changed a 50amp for an 80amp fuse. The problem is that I don't think they ever put hydralic slides on HC's, but your description sounds like the same thing.

Hmmm...I'm not familiar with any part of a cable motor system that would reset itself. There isn't anything the user can reset that I'm aware of. Are there specific fuses for cable slides similar to the ones that get replaced for hydraulics?

I have replaced my motor, gear box and cables. all pretty easy but in all my work on these I have never run across any thing re-settable. it is part of the 12 volt system so maybe as Dick mentioned its in the 50 amp breaker for your hydraulics. if you still have the 50 amp you should just replace it with an 80 amp anyway. keep us posted as to what it was for other who might have this issue. good luck

does a 384BR have hydraulics? might try lubing all the seals on slides inside/out both. Lube the bottom of the slide. with slides closed, get up where you can see the motor/gearbox and pullies. See if anything looks out of line. Cable might have jumped a pulley. put a little lube on pulley pins. See if that has an impact. What condition are batteries in?

Does the motor sound labored or strained when it's running? Are you plugged into shore power at the time? If not, and your batteries aren't topped off you could be trying to run on diminished voltage. I don't know if that matters on these motors but is something I would troubleshoot.

Can you tell where the click is coming from? Can you get someone to listen with you to try to locate it? That might tell you if there is a resettable fuse tripping that needs to be replaced.

When batteries are diminished the amperage goes up I've had challenges leveling my HC when batteries are low - there will be a click inside the front storage - this is the 150A breaker tripping from load.

I am plugged into shore power when bringing in slides and the motor does sound labored. The reset sound is coming in the area of the motor so thats why I was wondering if the motor had some kind of auto resetl.

That is what I was going to try next is lubing everything up. And the 384BR has electric legs.

I've never tried to run my slides in/out without being on shore power. But will have to check my batteries. A little over 1 year old so will just give them a quick check.

Is it possible that your cables are adjusted too tightly? Too much tension can cause the motor to work harder.

The converter typically can not handle the load alone - it still depends on batteries.

There is thermal protection inside the cable drive motor. I had trouble with one of my motors, disassembled it and bypassed the circuit interrupter with a soldering iron. No more problems. The circuit is also protected by other fuses in the camper. BUT, make sure nothing is binding up in the cable system and the slideout.

If the sound is coming from near the motor, I have no idea. A simple test is to have someone operate the slide while you feel for the probable 50a breaker near your hydraulic motor (I think you have one) with your hand to see if it's the one really clicking off, then try an 80a breaker instead.

I have a 2017 HC 305rL. I have been through a spate of issues with my large cable slide. Sounds like your slide is laboring too much because it needs adjusting. There are auto reset breakers that will trip if it labors too hard (draws too much current). Sounds like that is what is happening. I would check the cable adjustments. Also check to see if the foam nut stoppers are installed on the cable end nuts, which keep those nuts from loosening. There is some good info on the forum on the cable slide adjustment. Best of luck with it!

A couple years ago I checked all the campers on a new camper lot that had cable slides and didn’t find one that was adjusted the way the manufacturer said it should be adjusted.

I have 2018 345rl HC and have the exact same issue as you but with the slide that has the theater seats. I haven't figured it out yet. Saw some items that I will check tomorrow.

Good to know where the fuse is.

I loosened up the drive chains today and seems to be doing ok. The chains were as tight as a solid rod. Surprised one hasn't broke.
