Somebody ratted me out.......
So I'm sitting in my Monte minding my own business, and this guy stopped by, Richard was his name. He said he heard I was fairly handy, since the community center here in the park has just been remodeled, I figured there wasn't much I would have to do.....Wrong.
Cameron County here on Padre, uses convicts to help with county projects. I guess no electricians, or heating and cooling guys are able to get on the trustee work gangs. Talk about a screwed up construction project! I have been working for two and a half days now, I ran 100 feet of wire, 3 outlets, a switch, two fluorescent lights, cut in a supply vent on the A/C unit, enlarged the openings on 5 others, adjusted the furnace-A/C fans up on high, and on and on....
For nuttin! makes me wince even thinking about it.
I still have tons of work to do, good thing it's rainy, my bike is just sitting there in the rain.
Maybe I can talk the county out of some free rent.....

I know you like to help out your neighbors, but this sounds like someone is taking it a little too far. Surely it would be expected to offer some type of compensation for professional work...
Some rent compensation sounds like a good approach.

You're too easy! I don't mind helping folks, but dang, with all the money that park drags in.
Reminds me of an NPS park there in Destin we checked on this summer. They had a nice pad, with utilities, but wanted one person to put in 40 hours a week for it (No sharing work duties). Then, when we got down to the nitty-gritty of the deal, you couldn't leave the park even after you put in your work time, unless you had a relief person. Oh, and you had to open and close the gates at daylight and dark, at least six days a week. No thanks. If I work like that, I intend to draw a nice paycheck!

Ozz,
Just poke one of the guards or trustee in the nose. You'll shortly be doing the same thing for $2.50 a day.

I'll be you could get free room and board and uniforms too! Maybe I can get you up here in Nebraska and do some work for me with that type of arrangement! Got plenty of snow to move if you're into that but you'll have to hurry! It's suppose to get into the mid 40's by Sunday and all this white stuff will disappear! Well maybe when you come to Branson, you can come on up and put up some hay or something for me! Enjoy that warm weather OZZ, it ain't that way in Kansas or up here!!

Ha! Well, it's still rainy and cool here, so I don't mind. I'm making improvements that all of us use here, my fellow retirees are benefiting more than the county, that's good enough for me.
The $400.00 a month for a site a block from the jetty and the beach is pretty nice as well.
I got no Hot water.... another thread.

I bet the jail has room and 3 meals a day also. The nurse that works in the Cameron Co jail lives here in Winter Ranch and when there you can get free medical. Hope to see you and Sue at the Feb get together.
