check valve

Was helping the neighbor winterize his Everest and was wondering if there is a check valve in the hot water heater on the outlet side? He calmed he turned the by pass valve but we were getting antifreeze into the heater. He waited until it's colder the you know what and spitting snow. It took more antifreeze then we wanted but he thinks he has it winterized.

Well when in doubt, it's always better to waste a little extra.A cheap insurance policy.

Mickey,

there would be no reason for keystone to put a checkvalve on the water heater. There are none on your stickhouse either. Sounds like he either turned the valve the wrong way, or not all the way.

Actually, there is a checkvalve on the water heater. I cannot remember whether it's on the inlet our outlet side but it must be on the inlet side. It's on the top fitting on our 3295RK. When ours failed we got no hot water because no water could get into the water heater.

If he truly had the water heater bypass set correctly then antifreeze would never reach that checkvalve (the valve is in the body of the water heater where the pipe connects). If he's getting antifreeze in the heater then either he didn't set the bypass correctly or the bypass valve is faulty.

I think the top one is hot so that is where the check valve is. When I did mine the hand valve was on the bottom fitting and I could see the antifreeze go up the tube and not into the water heater. It went on to the hot water tubing. I remember seeing something about the check valve and water flow in MOC.

I just winterized mine...as a recent "new" owner of a used unit was concerned how the bypass thing works... Looking at mine I have the same congifuration, 3-way valve at bottom which is cold inlet side, guessed there might not be a "check-valve" as it must not be external so left heater "full" during winterizing procedure.
1) Turned 3-way to point towards bypass.
2) Hooked up Antifreeze bottle to extra inlet hose for water pump.
3) Opened 3-way inlet valve to point toward antifreeze bottle.
4) Turned on water pump.
5) Opened each faucet valve, while montoring bottle for volume, and waited for "pink" fluid.
6) When all had shown "pink", turned off water pump.
7) Pulled Anode rod, and allowed hot water tank to drain completely...no pink fluid...hmmm, maybe it has a check valve internal?

*** Now my issue, I have an extra line set that has not been winterized...seems to be an extra "Hot" feed that would support a washer? There is an inlet pipe that is capped off, and a vent loop under bathroom sink...none of this plumbing is "pink" and appears to have some fluid as there is a partial fill level point that can be seen under the bathroom sink...
Any thoughts....?

The checkvalve is external. It is screwed into the outlet at the top. The water line then screws into the checkvalve. Mine went bad (on the prior Montana), I bought a new one from an rv dealer ($5), removed the old and screwed in the new one.
