Anyone actually loosen slide gear packs?

Manual says to loosen gear packs and then lubricate with silicone spray. I just spray some silicon into the gears and moving areas. Wondered how many people actually loosen the gear packs and then spray and re-tighten?
Thanks.

We lubricate regularly with Slideout dry lubricant. Have never in all our years done anything else, never had a gear pack or any kind of slide failure. Just my luck, will lose a gear pack tomorrow.

I think you have hydraulic slides and the gears you are discussing are the ones in the slide rollers. The rollers get the lube and you must loosen the side bolts to allow the lube (recommended Mobil 1 synth) into the bushings.
You are directed in the instructions to NOT lube the actual gears as they could jump a tooth or more and cause the slide to be out of alignment.

Yes... I do this once a year before the beginning of our travels. Pic is from Lippert hydraulic slide out service manual. If you don’t keep those gear packs clean and bearings lubed at the least you will develops loud squeal noises when moving slides.

Worst case is one of those gear pack gear cog bearings binds and with 3000 psi hydraulic pressure pushing if gear can’t rotate smoothly and track then you will shear off teeth.

I do not use silicone spray on bearings. I lube with 10w30 synthetic oil. My slides move quickly, no noises and less drag on hydraulic pump motor because slides move freely

I think maybe if you had the slide not all the way extended, you would not have the shafts of the year packs in a bind and that would allow oil to get into the bushing area better. Not really sure what a little oil is going to help as the bronze bushing isn’t going to hold much oil and the oil will just collect more dirt.
