Somewhere in those pics of landing craft could very well be my oldest brother. He operated one of those LCs during the invasion. Thankfully he returned unhurt as did 3 other brothers that served in the European and Asian theatres.

This is an incredible link. The original pictures, the 65th anniversary pictures and the comments at the end. Very poignant and heartfelt.

Unfortunately, with all commentary there are missing points, arguments and even some sobering, challenging thoughts, but all are the perfect examples of the freedoms we take advantage of and don't appreciate enough that all veteran heroes have served to maintain, fight or die for.

A humbling thanks to Glenn and his brothers and many other MOC members for their familial sacrifices as part of the "Greatest Generation" during one of the world's darkest times. And for the rest of the MOC members who served after that, my hat remains off to you.

Very humbling looking at those pictures and knowing the sacrifices they made for the freedoms we often take for granted. Sombering to know that many in those pictures never made it home. Our soldiers, active, retired, deceased, deserve more honor and respect than is typically bestowed upon them.

Truley awesome! I can never look at photos like these without a tear in my eye. The real shame is many kids today have no idea what a huge impact these amazing men and women had on the world and how their actions secured the freedoms they enjoy today. No amount of gratitude is enough to thank them for the sacrifices they made, but to see the citizens of another country honor them as they have, says volumes about what they did on those faraway beaches.

We were in Normandy on May 9 of this year. We were also at the American Cemetery. It`s a very sobering time when you are at the cemetery,
if the French don`t love the US there is somthing wrong.

Thank you for the photos, my Dad was British Army and landed on Normandy that day. I remember him telling the more funny stories about that time, and never mentioned the bad side. One thing that strikes me is that it was by far American, British and Canadian soldiers that landed that day, and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for an American GI, who Dad said saved his life on day 3, and here I live in Canada.
Most of the younger people of the free world today have no idea (sadly) what their parents and grandparents gave so they can live the life thay have today.
