B&W Companion hitch
I am thinking of putting a hauler bed on my 09 Dodge 3500 Duelly to make the bed more accessable. It will come with a B&W Companion hitch and a gooseneck ball. Any thoughts on the hauler bed or Companion hitch. I currently have a slider Reese (don't need the slider anymore) pulling an 08 3645 Monty. I've heard the the Companion is a good hitch but would welcome any comments.

I don't have one but wish I did. I use my truck bed a lot and the above rail system is a pain to work around because flat loads can't lay flat. Since I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for another underbed hitch system, I bought some wood and built a removable platform to create a flat bed, but now I have the wasted weight of the wood itself and lost about an inch or so of height, but at least I have a flat bed to slide material into the truck bed. Now I also have the trouble of storing this platform, too
If you have the option or opportunity, go for keeping your bed flat and usable. Reese also has a similar offering. Members will be along to describe the positives of going with this. I just provided the BIG negative. If you don't use your truck bed much, then this shouldn't matter, but the first time you need a flat bed and you remove your hitch to use it, you'll be grinning!

The B&W companion hitch is the best. I have never figured out why more folks don't use this one. You get the best of all worlds. Clean bed, easy to use, and remove.

I like my B & W hitch, both the pin and the goose neck.

yup, a great hitch. I can remove it by myself. It is very stable. It is easy to hook up and unhook.

We love our B & W companion hitch. Gives a nice smooth bottom in the box with no rails.

I agree the B&W hitch is the best, you will not be disappointed. Quality is great and the guy who owns the company is the best!

IMHO the B&w is one of the best non-air hitches out there. We used one with our Monty and was very happy with it. Two comments for your consideration, one, when trying to unhitch on uneven ground(side to side) the hitch can be very difficult or impossible to unlock due to a limited amount of lateral angular movement it the hitch. We had this problem in a few CGs with unlevel spots. Second, the hitch can make a clunking sound at very low speeds such as when you take off from a stop or sometimes stopping. I finally figured out this was the hitch moving every so slightly in the truck. I found the sound could be eliminated by carefully torquing all of the bolts down as instructed in the owners manual!! Safe travels, Jay and Kathy

I agree! It is a great hitch. I have had no problems even when uneven ground.

Best none Air ride hitch I have owned. I have owned Reese and Valley/Huskey and the B&W was much better 5th hitchi. Ease in use and was the safest hitch of all. GBY......

Another vote for the B&W hitch. It`s very stable in the truck bed.

You won't be disappointed with the B&W. Very easy to couple and if properly installed, you'll never feel it move.

Ditto - great hitch and you get a clean bed surface for using your truck when not pulling. That plus you get your fifth wheel hitch out of the weather and out of site when not needed.

YES, occasionally we would get some chucking sensqation. It seemed related to speed and road surface. Usually slowing down slightly stopped it. We had a standard pin box on the Monty. Apparently an air pin box can help the considerably. Maybe someone with one will comment. One thing to be aware of os possible incompatiblity between components. We had a Reese MDT hitch in a FL M2 and ordered a airborne pin box only to fond the air cyclinder hit the locking lever on the hitch and would bend it preventing locking the hitch. We had to switch back to a standard pin box. So be sure to discuss this issue with your dealer/installer.. We later switched to a TS air hitch and it rode much better and eiliminated the chucking. Safe travels, Jay and Kathy
