Leveling & Re-Leveling Procedures

We are totally new to Fifth Wheels. Previously we had a motor home.

Our first trip out with fifth wheel we put the jacks down and leveled then put slides out.

Now we have been on the site for a month and feel like we should re-level. Do we need to put the slides in before re-leveling?

We are parked on grass so feel like we might have settled, which seemed normal for the ground conditions. If we are parked on a hard surface, would we “normally” expect to have to re-level after a month?

Appreciate any insight into the correct procedures.

We have releveled many times with the slides out. I normally raise the rear jacks and then lift the front of the rig, then do the auto level and it works fine. I’ve read that you can just hit the auto level without doing all that, but have never tried it.

Slides out and hit autolevel, your unit will relevel itself if it is not level. We spend 4 months on the same site in the winter and it seems like it needs to be releveled about once a month. I always place a couple of 2x12 boards under each of the front jacks as I have learned that the shorter the front jacks are, the more stable the unit.

I added a set of old fashioned level gauges. After auto level, slides are opened. I check them periodically and adjust manually if required.

I just hit autolevel and it will relevel if needed, I check mine every couple of weeks when we’re staying long term in one spot.

I had to relevel once so far. We had it at the CG for over a month, I just put the stairs up and hit the auto level button and the slides were out, not issues.

According to Lippert slides should be operated a couple times a month. https://www.lci1.com/assets/content/...de-out-web.pdf Page 6. Seems to be a good time to re level.

Yes, you will need to re-level probably every couple of weeks.

I've releveled with slides out with no issues.
Seems like a good practice to run the slides in n out every few weeks.
Thanks

Thanks all for great info. We especially appreciate Fatcatzz link to the Lippert Hydrolic Slide info. We will keep that for future reference.

Does anyone ever hear it click? I can stand next to my 3920 and I can hear the jack or hydraulics click every one in a while. Hoping that normal.

Thanks for the info. This our first with auto level and we stay most of the winter in one spot with gravel base. We will also exersize the slides which will require more prep then the relevel.

The clicking may be sticktion. I learned about this searching the forums. Apparently the hydraulic cylinders make noise as they heat and cool. Lippert has a cure by adding an additive. It drove me bonkers with our Fuzion we had until we figured it out.

Google up your nearest Cat dealer - they will have it.

The Lippert Tech bulletin 0295 has everything you need to know.

I just printed this Tech bulletin. Would this be something to do as a preventative maintenance measure? Thanks in advance.

No, once you add the stiction fluid you are good. Mine has been fine for the last 5 years. It may take two quarts to eliminate all the popping (mine did) but that may be the exception.
