North American Fall Rally Arrival Procedures

Arrival procedures-all attendees please read
I was going to wait awhile to post this but we have so many coming in I thought it would be a good idea to be proactive.

The normal arrival times for the Rally will be from noon to 5 PM. There may be some exceptions and we'll do our best to get people in. There should be a phone number at the sign in area for the early and late arrivals. Please call this number and we will expedite a parking crew to come to your rescue.

The only big exception for arrivals will be on the sixth. Any and all people who have volunteered to help may come as early as they can on the sixth. But not before I've had my morning pot of coffee. This has the making of a real cluster fork so we need everyone to be patient. The "Parking Team" volunteers will have priority to enter and park. This will expedite other arrivals once we get our volunteers mustered.

Now what to look for. The only road that gets you to the fairground is CR 34 (East Monroe St). Most will come from the west, some from the east. We will use gate number 3 for entry. This will be the only gate with people/pennants/orange cones/whatever we can do to get your attention, unless Marcia wants to barricade gate two. When you get on CR 34, SLOW down, if you overshoot the entrance you just added some time and frustration to your day. DO NOT turn onto the gravel road west of gate three. It will ruin your day.

You will enter a large parking lot and turn (right) to head west. There is room for multiple rows of rigs. Just pull behind the one in the shortest line. We will try to get to everyone in the order they arrived. No guarantees, please be patient. Some will arrive to an empty parking lot, some won't. Timing is everything. We will also try to de conflict multiple rigs going to the same area.

There should be a canopy in the middle of the lot with several people lounging around on golf carts, drinking fruity drinks with little umbrellas and staring at their phones. This is where you will be signed in and given your own personal parking professionals (ppp). The ppp will guide you to your assigned campsite and assist you in parking. They are required to make sure you do not encroach on your neighbors site. All sites will be professionally marked with spray paint. Encroachment is punishable by requiring you to move your rig to be inside your area. This will be shown as a yellow card. The red card comes on the third try and requires a trip to the local liquor store. Believe me, you don't want to go there.

If you have questions on your water, electric or sewer, the ppp should be able to answer them. If not we will find someone who can.

That is pretty much it. Simple if the weather cooperates, the arrivals are spaced out, and we get enough helpers when we need them. The arrival times are to give the parking staff a chance to enjoy themselves. Staffing for the odd arrival late at night or early in the morning is actually quite boring. There will be a separate post in the volunteer thread to inform the volunteers what to do.

So happy trails and we are looking forward to meeting everyone in September. And yes, I did cut and paste this from last years rally with some minor edits. And yes I just did it again.

If you come in early on the sixth and no one knows you are there and you happen to see your site is empty and you decide you will park and you don't see the paint lines and you park wrong and you screw up everyone else and we have to move all those affected and they wonder why and you don't want me to rat you out and you don't have a good bottle of bourbon and you can't find the liquor store, well, you're screwed.

Please, please, please be careful when parking un escorted. Different rallies park differently. You can not go by the faded grass. Your rig must be inside your lines with everything extended INSIDE your lines. This is where the domino affect really does happen. If you are unsure, wait for a "Parking Team" member or one of the wagon masters to give some assistance. Even this doesn't guarantee error free parking. But it does minimize it. The park isn't all that big and someone will help you.

Golf cart rental ?

Not really related to parking, but does anyone know if golf carts are available for rent at the rally.

It was raining hard in Goshen
I needed one more rig to make my night
A Monty up ahead waved to flag me down
We went in at the gate

Oh, Where you going to my camper blue
It's a shame you got caught up in the rain
They just looked out the window
Asking why they didn't hear the train

Something about them looked familiar
I could swear I 'd seen their rig before
But they said I'm sure you're mistaken
And they didn't say anything more

It took awhile but they looked in the mirror
And they glanced at the wands in my hands
A smile seemed to come to them slowly
It was a glad smile just the same

And they said we've made the rally
I said you're finally here
Through the too many miles and too little smiles
It's time to have a beer

And they camped happily ever after because they used the Parking Team to get to their site. The Parking team that can still use a few more volunteers. Please reference the Parking Team thread to volunteer.

For those that sang this song using the Rolling Stones, Sympathy For the Devil tune, you need to spend at least ten minutes in the 60's penalty box.

As of right now there is no more room at the inn prior to the sixth. With just the few exceptions no one else will be able to camp in the Elkhart County campground the night of the fifth. There is a very large rally right before ours and the campground needs time for the maintenance department to clean and pickup from that event. The Labor day holiday being on Monday further complicated our available sites. There are multiple other options around Goshen for those that want to be close on the fifth. This is a small price to pay for the improved indoor facilities that we now enjoy. Good luck, we're all counting on you.

I hope everyone had a good Fourth. But now that the holiday is past I need a show of hands of all those coming in on the sixth that hope to be set up by sunset (a little after 8 PM). Okay, now a show of hands of those volunteering for the parking team. See the problem here. With over 110 rigs coming on the sixth we are short of help. We will get everyone in, it's just a matter of when. If you would like to volunteer please go to this thread (North American Fall Rally Parking Team 2023).

I know, just another shameless plug for the Parking Team. But if not now, than when?

We don't abuse, we amuse. All that fresh paint will wear off pretty quickly. If there's a line in the parking lot when you arrive be sure to tell the signer that you have volunteered to be on the "Parking Team". Happy trails and see you on the sixth.

Nibbling on sponge cake
Watching the sun bake
All of the parkers wearing their vest
Sitting on golf carts
Looking at park charts
Hoping that someone will give us a rest

Wasting away again in a Monty rally
Looking for my lost golf cart keys
Some people claim that it's the bourbon to blame
But I think, this is a "Parking Team" tease

I don't know the reason
It's the end of the season
With nothing to show but this brand new tshirt
We went on the tours
And heard all the lures
And eaten so much it's beginning to hurt

Wasting away again in a Monty rally
Looking for my lost golf cart keys
Some people claim it's the bourbon to blame
But I know, this is a "Parking Team" tease

Just remember we do more than just park. We also wave and sign. For those on the fence about joining the "Parking Team", it may be time to make it official so you won't have to keep reading these posts. Just click on the link under the first post of the Parking Team thread. Unless you want to keep suffering .Bwahahahaha.

Griller? Not a problem. Call me when you get about 30 minutes out and I will grab some help and get you settled in. We'll get you the packet that night. I go to bed before ten so hopefully you don't get in too late. Sunset is about 8 and it's much easier in the daylight. My number is (don't tell anyone) 812-290-5433. If I don't pick up leave a message. It would help if I had more than a call sign to know who you are.

You know you want it. Everybody wants it. He wants it, she wants it, nobody doesn't want it. Why deprive yourself? Why not give into the urge? It doesn't have to be messy. You really don't need to abstain from it. You know what they say, "if it feels good, do it". So go ahead and cut loose. Let the inner you out. Don't feel guilty. Let your conscience be clear. Be one of a fascinating trend. Join the "Parking Team" today. You'll thank yourself tomorrow.

Not that I'm keeping track, but, I think we just cracked the 50 day count down clock. Before you know it, it'll be the 40. Still time to volunteer for the "Parking Team". hint, hint.

I've figured it out. Woody is looking for 200 volunteers on the parking team so it turns in to self park. I'm on to you....

And so ends my dream. I guess the bourbon is just going to have to wait. I just wish I knew how to edit better.
