Here is what we woke up to this morning! A balmy 9 degrees now with an overnight low expected of -3!

UGH! It is a good thing I did all of the grocery shopping for the trip yesterday because otherwise I would be pushing a full shopping cart through all this snow! Unfortunately it is supposed to dump snow on us all weekend while we are supposed to be loading the trailer! Oh well! It will make us appreciate Q all the more...as long as the weather is nice there!

Every stop along our way, Idaho Falls and Cedar City, are supposed to be about as cold as it is here! So start warming up the Q for us! We are going to need it so we can defrost before we have to head home!

I live in Murrieta, CA about 60 north of San Diego. The temp was 29 degrees when we woke up at 7am this morning and at 8:32am it finally reached 32 degrees. Yes, I know this temp is a hot spell for all of you back East, but for this southern Californian, anything at or below freezing just ain't right!

Just to warn you Q might me just a little cooler but you probably won't have that white stuff. Have a safe trip and enjoy your stay there.

Hi Art Marge- I used to live in Chula Vista, CA so I know what you mean by that is 'just not right'!!! I would be in shock! So I guess the weather is weird everywhere right now! Well that is fine as long as it improves by Tuesday (Sunday would be even better so we don't have to load the trailer in the cold). Stay warm in SUNNY California!

BTW...keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer for me because on this trip I am going to need to do some of the driving and, although I have towed boats before, a big rig in the snow is not idea for a novice! So everyone keep your loved ones off of I15 until it is Keith's turn to drive!

Carol,

One big difference between towing a boat trailer and a Monty is that the latter has brakes...so, apply your brakes gently when slowing down in the snow and ice so that the Monty doesn't end up beside you.

Not nearly as cold but it looked like that here in north TX Christmas day!

But today is supposed to be near 70.

Thanks Michael for the great point! I once took a winter driving course, because I learned to drive in California, and the Highway Patrol Man said you should ALWAYS drive as if you have a VERY HOT CUP of coffee in between your legs! If you stop too fast you are going to BURN! I think I will try and apply that advice with even more vigor since there is a HUGE weight behind me!

Thanks for all of the well wishes! The day is getting brighter but not because the snow has stopped (it hasn't) but because I know I have people sending me positive thoughts!

Carol it doesn't matter how cold it is in Quartzsite... It's going to seem downright balmy compared to what you have going on right now.

I don’t even know what it got up to temp-wise today but I do know that with a flannel shirt on I got plenty warmed up. I enjoyed working outside in what felt like > 60° today.

Gayle and I came down to Tucson from 1.5 hrs. north of Toronto, Ontario,Canada arriving here last night. it was below freezing overnight and soared to 48F this PM. I washed the truck and car this morning and then we went to the Desert Museum this afternoon. We walked around all afternoon and had a great day, despite the cool temp. The sun was bright all day and made it feel warmer. The local news last night said that the next 4 days will be the coldest period in 42 yrs. Just our luck! I think the cold weather came down from Ontario with us. When we set out it was snowing but after the 1st day we had clear(but cold)sailing all the way down. the local weather says that it will begin to warm up by Wed. Anyway, we'll be at Q on the 15th. See you there!

Sunny and "warm"(?) at "Q" at 7:30 AM = 35 degrees.

Oh well, at least it is sunny.

I am just glad we can blame it on you artfuldodger and not us coming down from Montana!!!

It sounds like everyone is having safe travels! That is great! I am glad that all of you will be at the Q safe before I get on the road! Teehee! I am fairly new to driving the big rig and definitely in the dark and snow! So wish us luck but more importantly pray for everyone on the road!

Carol, I have been driving in the Northeast all my life through all kinds of weather conditions. I have been RVing for over 20 years. Just my personal opinion here, but I would not drive a truck pulling a 5th wheel on ice or snow. My best advise is to stop somewhere and wait it out. It just isn't worth the risk no matter how bad you want to get somewhere. Here's hoping the roads are clear and you are able to make the trip with no bad weather, just please be very careful!! Al

Thanks Al! That is exactly what we plan to do, pull over and wait it out, if we can. Unforatunately, as you probably know weather in Montana can change in a moment. The big joke is if you don't like the weather 'wait a minute because it will probably change'. So although we do not plan on driving on icy, snow covered roads it may not be avoided. We are praying that the weather has cleared up. We got quite a bit of snow today but it has stopped and they have plowed the roads. So thanks for the wonderful words of wisdom and positive thoughts. We also know that if the weather changes and is foul we will not be going to Q. We want to be safe, first and foremost!

Hi Carol, if you are coming down I-15 the road is basically clear. It was ice covered from Dillon south for about 30 miles and then intermittent over Monida Pass. From there it was bare and dry to Brigham City, UT where we are currently staying overnight.

Thanks Wayen for the road report! That makes me feel a little better! We are going to stop in Dillon to eat, stretch and refresh our perspective! Then we will be ready for that last stretch to Idaho Falls. Glad you have had a safe trip so far! Keep us posted and let us know that you made it safe! We look forward to meeting some fellow Montanan's with Montana's (WOW the grammar on that made my head hurt!)
