What is that little silver block?
that is on the positive lead wire going from the battery to the slide motor?
It is a bit rusty on one screw and must not be making solid contact.. hence the slide did not work today..
but, I jumped across the two screws, and it worked..
when I would wiggle the wires, it would give a shorting sound from those wire connections and then not work..
what is it and is it needed??

Sounds like it is the "automatic reset circuit breaker". It provides overcurrent protection for the slide out motor circuit that is fed directly from the battery. Corroded connections could be a problem, or the breaker could be weak. I would just clean up the connections for a start. Also, make sure the slide out mechanism is properly lubricated.
Is it needed? Yes and No. It is needed to protect the circuit from over current and resulting overheating, and all that implies. On the other hand, if you are standing right there, and jump it out in an emergency to get the slide to move, nothing bad will happen in the short term, if you pay attention to any signs of overheating or labouring by the motor. Not something you should do routinely though.
I don't think they are expensive, it might be a good idea to pick up a spare to have on hand just in case.

John, if you replace it you will need to pay attention to what amp rating it is. It should be stamped on the case somewhere. It will be something like 20, 30, or maybe even 40 amp. Not sure which it is.

They are known as "Short Stop Fuses" and the ones one my Monty (two of them) are 50 Amp.

We had to replace ours last year as they were corroded and would cause the slides to operate intermittently. After cleaning the connections and replacing the breakers, I encased them and the connections in silicone to prevent the same thing from happening again. Its been a year and there is no sign of corrosion. Ours are exposed to the elements because we have a TT and they are mounted on the tongue.

50 amp.. replaced it this weekend and I have the slide working again!!
