furnace
Just checked out my furnace in my new camper and found out that they did not seal the plenum at all and a lot of hot air was coming out and going right back in the intake. So a lot of hot air never made it into the rest of the unit. I sealed it with aluminum tape and now I have more air coming out all the registers and it will use less propane.

can you get a picture of where the leak was, and where you taped?
I'm concerned that mine may have that problem, as there is very little air flow out the floor vents

It was the furnace itself. Just turn it on and run your hand around the furnace feeling for air coming out. There should be none! The only air coming out should be at the registers.

when i checked mine i had the same thing. they did a lousy job. mine had a couple little pieces of tape holding the ductwork on. taped everything and took out some of the bends in the ducts so the air could flow easier. one duct had about 3' too much length. everybody do yourself a favor and take the panel off in the storage compartment and check. mine was only four screws to remove. remember the straighter the run the better air flow you'll get.

Had to ducktape all our too. RV furnaces are not very efficient in the first place but will all the gaps found on the outlet ducting it was even more inefficient.

We just had a furnace installed at the stick house and the installer pointed out the same thing on our house ducts. The main plenum leaks out all the seams into the basement. He gave me some "goop" to seal the seams with a brush, and some hi-tech tape.
House too big - too many pipes! I think I'll do the Monty first and show Dory how to do it so she can do the house.

Brad, if I were you, I think I'd hide all the tools, rolling pins, bricks, sticks of firewood--anything like that around your house and garage--until you convince Dory that you were only kidding. You were kidding, right?
(You might even want to hide the goop that seals things. We women have good imaginations when it comes to taking care of problems!)

Dory is no fool - she said she knew I was kidding because those air leaks into the basement are there for a reason - to keep the pipes from freezing

I also have very little air coming out of the floor vents in the main living area, but lots of air in the bedroom. Pulled the cover in the basement to look at the ducts. There are three ducts, one large and two small. The large one goes to the bedroom duct, one small one goes to the commode room and the other goes into the floor under the stairs leading to the bedroom. Does this small duct going into the floor feed the main living area duct? And if so, I would have thought the larger duct would have fed the larger area.

The small one going into the floor is most likely the one for heating the underbelly. The main duct for the floor registers in the main area of the 5er are fed from beneath the furnace plenum - it sits on an open square and the heat is fed into this rectangular duct work.

Thanks. I guess I will use a mirror to look up into the duct to see if there is an obstruction.
