water heater bypass
I have a 2013 Mountaineer. Does it have a water heater bypass and if so, where is it? Unless it is behind the basement panel, I don't know where it would be.
It seems like there is a slow drip coming out around the anode plug area - not from the threaded area, at least it seems. So if something goes completely bad it would be nice to just bypass the heater for a few days.
Thanks in advance.

From the lack of responses, am I wrong that the Montana line has hot water heater bypass valves?

On our Montana, and most if not all for quite a few years, there is a check valve on the hot water heater where the hot water exits, along with a valve in the convenience center that turns off cold water to the water heater, which effectively bypasses the water heater. The check valve keeps water from coming back into the water heater. The wet area may be from the pressure relief valve above, dripping down to the anode rod, and if not, your anode wasn't tightened enough. The anode has a tapered plumbing thread, so along with Teflon tape or other sealant, the tapered thread seals tighter as it is tightened.

I am not familiar with the Mountaineer but I assume you don't have a convenience center with a water heater bypass switch prominently displayed. Before the convenience center, the bypass switch was on the back of the water heater on the cold water input line. Getting access to the switch depends on the location of the heater. You may be able to get to it by removing the back wall of the pass thru compartment or from the inside by removing a panel in a storage cabinet.

As Carl said, if there is not a switch in the convenience center, it may be behind the WH.
Here are some pictures of a typical bypass system using multiple valve arrangements.

Our 2008 3400RL had a WH bypass in the convenience just like our 2012 3585SA and the current 3791RD.

the labels are gone off by bypass switch so I don't know in what position the switch should be in for the hot water heater to fill. Can you tell me how yours works?
