Hello All! My name is Jimmy Silcox. I'm 34 years old and recently purchased a Montana 3600RE, 2006. I work as a Marine Engineer offshore and plan to travel around the country during my time off, looking for a place to settle down. I plan to register my rig and my 2011 6.7L F-250 in South Dakota when I get home in a few days. I'm originally from the Eastern Shore of MD. My first trip will be to Nashville and I'm planning a winter trip to Breckenridge in February. It'll just be my black lab, Gauge, and I. We are very much looking forward to it. I'm in the process of outfitting my new rig and making some mods to my truck also. I have been reading through a lot of the posts on this forum and there is a great wealth of knowledge I've come across. I look forward to talking with you all and to my new nomad life!

Welcome. We have been registered as residents with South Dakota since 2003, using first Alternative Resources and now renamed Dakota Post as a resource. There are some legal requirements, which I would recommend you check to ensure a SD legal residency fits your lifestyle. Congrats on the rig

Welcome! Trip to breck should be fun, moreso if you ski. Since you have been reading the forum, there is a lot of good info in the archived posts on tires, etc. Hope the former owner put good tires on your rig, if not...bite the bullet and start life on the good side. Let us know where we can help. John

Thanks so much for the warm welcome everyone! I have been reading a LOT on here and have already learned so much. I will check my tires when I get home but I'm relatively certain they are STs. I read a bunch on that last night and plan to look into changing out my tires after I check my rim size. The guy I bought it from says the tires are brand new so I hate to change them out so soon but from what I read, its a must. I understand I might be able to get a credit for them also. Maybe I'll get it done when I'm in Nashville this time off. Anyways, again, thanks again so much for the warm welcome and the advice. I plan on doing some more reading on here tonight. Look forward to chatting with you all again.

Welcome to the forum. As DQDick mentioned check the forum search for folks like us who have wineed in our rigs. Honestly, if you do some of the easy things like skirting the bottom of the rig with insulation board and wrapping your water hose with electric tape, etc. It is not that bad. We endured temps well below zero for extended times in the Catskill Mtns in NY for 3 winters with no issues.

Good luck and safe travels,

Les

Hello Fellow MOC's

Bought my first Montana in June and have been busy playing with my new toy. I have been learning new tricks of the trade from many "veterans." Speaking of veterans, I retired from the Marine Corps in 1996 and am preparing for my second retirement in (May 2016). We look forward to "hitting the road" and enjoying the times, traveling and the wonders of our great country.

Breckenridge, first stop? Winter living to start. Unless you hook up to 50 amp and use electric heaters, you'll be blowing through the propane. I only winter camped once in my rig. I was blowing through a 30# (7gal) tank every two days. That can get pricey. I prefer using electric cuz that is covered by the cost of the campsite.

Good luck to you and welcome!
