Illinois to St George, UT

This is our first long term trip. We plan to winter in the St George, UT area, coming from Elgin, Ill (suburb of Chicago). Because I have made a commitment to work the elections (election judge) we cannot leave the Chicago area until November 7 or 8.
We plan on taking a route of roughly south on Ill 55 to St louis, west on 44 to 40 to Vegas.
Does anyone have any experience traveling this route so late in the season. What do you think our chances are of making it south before the bad winter weather hits ?

Larry,
I wouldn't worrry too much about the weather in general but would keep an eye on the area from Albuquerque thru Flagstaff as these are higher elevations and could snow there
