Replacing Carpet

We're thinking about replacing the carpet in our Montana fifth wheel with wood flooring. Has anyone done this? Suggestions? Is weight a big factor?

Waco, welcome to the forum. We have seen this wood replacement on at least three rigs and it is very nice. The weight does not seem to be a problem. One person had a problem because he had a screw that was hanging down so that when he closed the slide, it scratched the wood. Otherwise it seems that people are very happy with this improvement. All the jobs that I saw only replaced the main part of the floor and left the carpet on the slides. We're considering this improvement for our Monty in the future.

Welcome to the MOC family Anne. Yes several members have replaced their carpet with laminate flooring. If you go back to the opening page, scroll down on the left side to " Members Show & Tell" you will see one member that replaced his, lots of pictures. Good luck and post your pictures when you get done, we like to see what others are doing to their Montana's.

We saw what Al and Nita (coachpotatoes) did in their coach and it looked real nice. They kept the carpet on the slides also.

I'm about as handy as a guy with 10 thumbs. Anybody know where/who installs laminate flooring in RV's in central Florida?

Welcome to the forum Waco, we installed the laminate last summer and really love it. We only did the living area and not the slide area or bedroom. It was really easy to install, just make sure you get all of the staples out of the floor before you start. We missed one staple it threw us off by almost an inch. Had to start all over again, very aggravating. As far as the weight of the laminate being a factor, we really haven't noticed any difference.

We were also the ones who had the screws that were too long. We had our kitchen table replaced and screwed the new legs in too far. Check under the kitchen slide to make sure there are no little surprises under the table.

Virg, our neighbor across the street had to have the carpet replaced in her Terry. She just called a local carpet installer.

We had a friend who replaced his carpet. He had a flooring place come out and do his. They did a great job (this was in IL) I would call around to flooring places and just ask if they do rv's.

We have a 2955 and I put it down in the living area. Started at the cabinets and lay it towards the slide room. Use srews with washer to hold it down at the slider. We love it and would do it again. There are some large screws that hold the walls to the slider floor(check outside), If these are not straight in and have an angle to them they will scratch the floor up. Go for it.

I was at Home Depot over the weekend and they have the type of flooring you need on clearance. You could probably purchase all of your materials on sale for about 40-60 bucks. They also have a clearance on the magic chef portable ice makers...$147.00 for them. I bought a second one just to have on hand for when the old one dies.
