Pin weight of 295RLS or 2955RL

These models are the same floor plan but the first is a Mountaineer and the second is a Montana. My Mountaineer 295RLS is optioned up to a basic Montana 2955RL. The listed pin weights for both basic units is about 1800#. When I took mine over the scales basically empty I found the pin weight to be over 2200#. What a surprise! What are you others finding for scaled pin weights of these two models? The empty trailer alone scaled in 1200# above the list in the brochure, so I guess I should not be too surprized at the extra pin weight. The concern I have is that now my truck GVWR is over even though the rear axle GAWR is not.

Derfr: When our 2955RL is loaded with everything we need for a 2 month trip and 2/3 tank of fresh water, the pin weight is about 2480 lbs.

Brochure pinweight on our model is 2300. Actual as we have it loaded is 3300. I think the brochure weight is as it comes from the factory, before propane bottles, batteries, fluids, gear.

In general most TT are 10% of the weight on the toung. but 5th wheels are different because of there desing construction. my 2980RL is almost 2200 lbs.

If you do a search for this topic you will find that it has been discussed several times. The manufacturers, keystone in particular, either underestimate the weights in their literature or just blatantly lie about it. The dealers know it, but don't say anything about it.

In their defense, the literature weights do not include options, but that does not account for the big differences. Ours was also about 2200 lbs. I asked the dealer and wrote Keystone about it and neither one has ever responded. I won't buy another one till after the dealer has had it weighed for me. Let the buyer beware!!

We have to be careful about how we load ours to keep tongue weight down. Added a bike rack and bikes on the back bumper, travel with some fresh water (tank in the back) and try to put weight behind the axles instead of in front. It takes some creativity.

Our 04' 2955RL is 2380# fully loaded, with the freash water tank full. When I towed it with FW tank empty; it about bucked us out of the truck.
