We always stay at the top of Raton Pass in the Cedar Rail RV park. In fact, we will be there on Tuesday night of next week. I highly recommend it. For the first time we have made reservations there. We've always just "stopped in." But I thought it might be advisable this year to have a confirmed place. She told me there was plenty of room.

We also sometimes stay at Cedar Rail. A nice little RV park at the very top of the pass with a great view. And it will be much cooler up there. But quite a ways from anything else if you need a restaurant or place to buy things.
Otherwise we stay at the Raton KOA. Not bad but nothing special either. All gravel but sites are level. And it is right in Raton so convenient to services. But will not be as cool.
If you intend to go on up into Colorado check ahead first. We had to evacuate from South Fork area due to the west fork complex fire. That fire is over 80,000 acres and still uncontained.
And another large fire, the east peak fire, south of US 160 between Walsenburg and La Veta. I believe they are slowly getting that one contained, but smoke could be a problem.
