Off road Canyon trip, miles from any people

We connected with two couples that owned Jeeps, they belong to an off-road club here in Havasu, Sue and I made two trips with them, we have never seen such remote beautiful locations before. This is the Canyon adventure. We were in California, west of the Colorado River in the rugged mountains. There were only one lane power-line maintenance roads, we traveled for miles in dry riverbeds. 2 trips we will never forget, this is the first.

My kind of place Ozz. If I could just get my camper there. To find these places you need to know or get to know the locals.

Lynwood,
There are many places around here you can take the RV, and still be in the wilderness, here is a place North Of Lake Havasu City we went to, 5 miles up into the mountains, the campground was a mile up, then the road went past. Great country, solitude and so quiet.

I bet the view would be awesome at night. You would be able to see all the stars without any city lights and that would be something to see!

Bill & Donna, the awesome sunsets is part of the "draw" of the people returning to Quartzsite every year! We are 5+ miles from town and it gets pretty awesome out there at night around the campfire and good friends!!!

Plus, if after you attend Quartzsite and go back to FHU, you decide to go back out for a day or two, there is a lot of BLM land between where Ozz is and Yuma and Phoenix!!!

Ozz,
There was a place close to where I lived in California that could only be accessed on horseback. It was very steep and rocky. If there wasn't a contrail in the sky to remind you what century you were in, you would swear it was 1849 again. It was beautiful.

Are there any permits required when staying on BLM areas?

Bill I think you can stay on BLM land anywhere you can find it. I know you can in Wyoming. In Wyoming if you travel down a public road to BLM land in the middle of a ranch you can camp and the ranch owner can't say one thing. He will own the ranch and rent the section, one square mile, but you can still stay on it. There are maps to show where the BLM land is. I camp almost every year in the Shirley Basin 440,000 acres. Its north Laramie of about 90 miles. I have a friend who worked for the BLM and this information comes from him.

Looks like it's time for a "toy hauler" to bring the 4 wheeler along, or the golf cart, possibly both?

That would be ideal. A man can't have too many toys

Just be aware that there are some wilderness areas that you cannot take your toys or the Rangers can and will impound the toys and write you a hefty ticket. Know the rules.

Mike is right on, you can walk in or ride a horse but almost any thing else is stickily forbidden. In a wilderness area you cant even take in machinery to fight a fire.
