Toppoprails Bike Rake

This was advertised in the November issue of Trailer Life. I checked out their web site but would like to know more. Has anyone heard of them or used them? The fifth wheel picture in Trailer Life is on a Montana. It is a Canadian firm and I don't know the dollar conversion. 450 Canadian. How much is that US? The rack bolts to the pin box and looks really well made from the pictures. Ed wants one so help me please. I have to jump fast when he gets excited about something for the Monty because it is usually me wanting things. They have them for 2 or 3 bikes. web site is www.toppoprails.com
Happy trails.....................

Sue, when I clicked on your link I got a web hosting site. Maybe I've got a couple loose wires.

Be sure to remove the period on the end of the link and it will work OK

I removed the period and the link worked for me as Mike suggested.
I like the product but the bikes would get a lot of bugs on them up there and Short Box owners would want to watch their clearance but it is a good option for some people.

Right now the Canadian dollar is about 88 cents US.

Okay I removed the period. I don't think of links as much as just info. Sorry.
Happy trails....................

Sue,

I have seen these on some other posts and they look like a great idea, however they would never work on my shortbed. There isn't near enough room between the Monty and the cab when I'm maneuvering.

I'm actually looking at putting a bike rack on the roof of the TV like our Expedition has. With the crew cab there is a huge amount of space up there.

Sue, let me know how you make out on this bike rack.
I sent a request to them yesterday for more information but have not heard back. I am interested in the DFX model.

Doug, we probably won't buy this until next spring or summer when we start full timing. They replied to my email after several days. Here is what they said:
Thank you for your enquiry.

"We have two series currently available. They're both quite similar. The main difference will be in the bracket system. If you plan on switching your rack from your trailer to your vehicle often, you should go for the DFX series as it can be taken down and switched in about 1 minute.

The rack being situated in the front of the trailer ensures accrued
stability and less swing. Also, you always have your bikes in your line of sight.

Here are our current prices:
DFX 7000
2 Bike Base 247US$ 232US$
Trailer Bracket 190US$ 190US$
Hitch Bracket 140US$ 144US$

The bike rack can be bought without the hitch bracket which can purchased later should you ever need it.

These prices include all shipping and brokerage. We ship via UPS.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Martine Loyer
Administration

Please note that you should always contact us to make sure that the product will fit on your particular combination of trailer - towing vehicle."

We thought the price was pretty good and since we have a dually we aren't worried about the weight on the hitch.
Happy trails........................

Sue,
Thanks for the link. We have been looking for a bike rack and since Lippert doesn't like anything on the back bumper, this is a great alternative.

Sue: The C$ closed at .8884 against the U$ today. That is the international rate of exchange, so if you actually do a transaction through your bank they will usually take about 1 1/2 cents for the transaction which would be about 89 US cents to buy 1 Cdn dollar. Therefore $450 C$ would cost you about $400 U$.

We are heading south on Friday for five months and if we get to Hemmet again we will give you a shout.

Sue, thanks for the information.
I don't have a dually so I would be interested to hear from any of our members as to whether putting an extra 90 lbs. on the hitch would be a problem. I don't want to repeat my $500 ladder replacement issue with a bigger problem.
