Toilet Paper
I though I would ask you all instead of trying everyone for my self.
Which band of TP do you use? Trying to find one that breaks down in the tank, is soft for the Mrs., and strong enough for me is not easy.
Thanks for your help.

We don't like Scott 1000, The Angle Soft seems to work for us. RV paper like Thetford doesn't. Angle soft is two ply and passes the disintegration test.

We also use Angel Soft. Do you know about the "shake test"? Put a piece in a jar of water and shake it up a bit. If it is good to use in the tank, it should break up quickly.

The RV stuff flunked last shake test we witnessed.
Currently using White Cloud, passed the test. Will be switching to that at the stick built as well, as we have septic there.
Several of the other brands we had on board did NOT pass the shake test.
Interesting fact that came out last year sometime by our members, several of the manufacturers changed the formula on their paper, what passed the shake test 3 years ago, no longer passed.

Have tried most brands. Angel Soft, 2-ply, works best for us. Passes the shake test, is strong enough for me and dainty enough for my wife.

what happens if you are not moving, how does the TP shake test relate??
To break down TP or other things you need to add a "surfactant"
A low sudding detergent, like a cheap laundry detergent.
What happens if you wash your cloths, the Monty, TV or even yourself with plain water, nothing it or you are still dirty.
So just add a cap full, like a washing machine to the bowl and flush, after the next time you dump and you will get a cleaned tank and break down the TP and waist.

Awe! Icehouse!(Tammy) Is that a voice of experience???
SO far I have used "septic Safe" that I purchased at the RV dealer, but it is not Thetford. It has worked well. During clean-out, only see liquid being sent down the tube. No paper or other large objects. Guess I'm doing something right for a change.

We use Costco, Kirkland brand. It passed the shake test. Have had no problems and have been using it for 3 years.

Gee Myrna,
Just one purchase at Costco could be a 3 year supply!

Robbie.. maybe one year. It is great for stuffing between things or on the upper shelves in the pantry. At least we never run out.

I have thought about this as my black water tank is no different than my home system except better, as the RV tank is flushed every time we come back from a trip. The paper really is being flushed into another septic system to continue the cycle. I do not leave it in the rv system to break down.

We use Scott extra soft mega rolls (septic safe). They last about 4 times longer than an average roll of RV paper and really shreds nicely as opposed to the RV junk... Dave and Betsy
