Tire blowout and sheet metal damage

I had a blow out today and now need a new fender skirt and also the sheet metal piece that is above and extending to rear corner. This is on a 2018 3791 RD. Where have others bought these items. I know I am not by a long shot the only one having to do this.

I believe they offer the fenders.

Your local dealer should be able to help you get the parts you need. Maybe easier and cheaper than Trekwood.

John-- You might want to check to see if there are any RV Salvage yards in your area. They just may have the materials you need for your repair.

I purchased fender skirts off Amazon. Just search RV fender skirt. I think the ones I got were manufactured by ICON. Only needed about 3 feet of the J channel. Local repair guy was able to fabricate the sheet metal J channel and painted to match for less than what Montana wanted for shipping.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Did your TPMS not give you a warning or indication of tire failure?

I think the more interesting questions are, on a three-year-old RV, a) what kind of tires did you have, b) how many miles do you think we’re on them, and c) were you overweight?

It would also be a big help to know what tire brand it was.

I’m always amazed how many of these threads get hijacked from the original question? I used Trekwood for both the fender skirt and a piece of prepainted siding. They had the best pricing and shipping was fast. Was an easy diy repair.

Trekwood may be the best source of the fender. For the sheet metal, if you still have the original sheet metal, it might be better and less expensive to take the old pieces to a sheet metal shop and have them fabricate replacements, then to a body shop to get them painted. Your dealer may have a piece of sheet metal left over from a previous job. They would probably like to get rid of that. If they have to order it, it comes in 10 foot long sheets and the shipping is a killer.

Tires should last more than three years. Goodyear won’t repair a tire that is over five years old so they should last that last long.
The question is are or were they what we call China Bombs and were whey property inflated, have enough air in them?

Not sure if you’re speaking from experience but I am. The Trekwood skirt was 16” x 142”, with the correct bottom radius and the correct color and shipping was $55 total for it and the fender. Good luck getting a replacement fabbed at a sheet metal shop and then a body shop for painting for the $95 purchase price plus the above shipping.

That's true, but the first thing I thought of when reading the post was what was the brand of tire. This information could help somebody else avoid the same problem...if it was the tire or any other specific issue.

I`m not trying to be rude but......when I started to read this thread the first thing that came to mind was what brand of tire, what were the conditions that caused it to fail. This is a safety issue that MOST people would want to know. I have a 2018 RD also and it came with Sailuns and have never had any issues with them and for the best part have never put any more air in them after the initial top off.
Sorry for his problems but they are repairable and really are just part of the game. My hydraulic pump went out so I fixed it and forgot it but loosing a tire could have been catastrophic and people are going to want to know why so they can avoid this at all costs.......
Really, Just Sayin
