An idea how to vent a non-vented battery box

I made the switch to twin 6V batteries a couple of weeks ago and ordered a dual 6V battery box from Amazon. The box was not vented. so I changed that. I took a 1 1/4" x 1" PVC bushing and drilled a 1 3/4" hole in the lid, pushed it through and tightened the factory hose around it.

Is there holes is the side (near the top) so air can get in. Battery gas is lighter than air so it rises.

Yes, plenty of area to draft air where the cables go into the box.
