Rim replacement

Like many people I have Marathon tires. I want to get the Goodyear G614's which require different rims.

Where have people gotten their replacement rims and what do they cost?

Are there any quality G rated tires you can use with 80 PSI rims?

Mel, I ordered G614 tires last Thursday from http://www.trailertiresandwheels.com/ and asked for a price for rims at that time. Sara replied with the attached rims for $105.00 ea. plus shipping. The tires run me $250 each plus $175 shipping for a total for the tires at $1,175.00 to Olympia Wa. These rims are rated for 3580# so will work with the G614. I went with my stock steel rims as funding is tight at this time and wanted to make sure that I picked the best tire I could find.

UPDATE Just received my new tires on UPS today. They show a manufacture date of 06/2011 so I can not complain about not being fresh tires. They look like a beefier unit then the one I have on the rig now!

Mel, more or less by definition the G-rated tires will probably all have a max rating for 110 psi. I might be wrong but I think that's right. Unless you really want the aluminum rims, steel rims rated for 110 psi might be considerably cheaper.

We twice had to replace a TR6 aluminum rim when our China Bombs blew. The total delivered price was $176 at one dealer and $196 at the other. The first one was about 2 years ago and the last one a little more than a year ago. I would think the steel rims would be a whole lot cheaper.

You may have discussed this on another thread (there have been too many to keep up with), but are you sure you need to have different rims?? A quick doublecheck on Tredit.com's website may yield an answer if you can match up the rims you have?? If you have already done this, I apologize for not remembering the details of a previous post.

Mel, You should check on the inside of the wheels, usually between the spokes, to see what numbers are stamped on them. You might not need new wheels if they are rated for 110psi.

Out of curiosity I just checked tredit.com and found that ALL of their STEEL 8-lub 16x6 rims carry a weight rating of 3750 lbs or more. The lighter ones are 6-lug. I haven't yet checked the aluminum rims but wanted to mention those steel rims are an (probably cheaper) option and there are some nice looking ones there.

Anyone that is planning to change the current wheels for an upgrade should also check with the axle manufacturer that the correct offset is being puchased.

Cheers Ken
