Blocking light from the shower skylight

So, now that it is getting light at 5:30 a.m., I really need to block said light from my bedroom. What is anyone else using to cover the skylights with?

We use the silver foam product that you use for car windshields, cut to fit, and held in place by some small pieces of velcro. We don't do it as much for the light as to keep out the heat.

In our 2008 3400 I used a piece of rigid 1" foam insulation. I cut it just right so it would fit inside the skylight without Velcro. DW found some cloth material to cover it with. In our 3725 we can just close the bathroom door now.

I took a slightly different approach. I wanted diffused light. I took the inside cover off and used parchment paper to cover and diffuse the light, and replaced the inside cover.

Same as Devildog but we used bubble wrap. It still lets some light in and it insulates.

I installed a retracting(sp?) blind thing. I can't remember what it is called but think I got it from someplace in Co. for $40-50. It is attached with 2 screws and on the other side another screw or two attach a hook thing that is used to hold the blind over.
I blocks the light almost completely but when open it lets all the light in.
If interested, I can look up the exact name of the blind.
p.s. This is great for Alaska where it is light most of the night!!!

I took the inside dome out and went to the auto parts store and bought some of spray on paint they use on show car tail light lenses. It is smoke or a purple colored smoke color and I sprayed the clear plastic on the top of the inside dome. It does not completely block all the light but makes it much darker and it actually looks like clouds above you while in the shower.

I removed the cover (4 screws) then placed on the window back side car tint. It stays cool, but I can still see outside. It works fantastic.

I had trouble with the Velcro not sticking. So I got one of the silver aluminum foil quilted skylight covers that came with the Velcro. So we ditched the Velcro and I went to Hobby Lobby or any major craft store and bough snaps with the little tool to install them for bout $5. I installed 4 on the foil cover then I had to find 4 screws that where the same thread size but had smaller heads then the ones in the trim around the sky light. The pack of snaps had ones you could screw to the wall/ceiling, So now just got to snap it one and it stays.

I made a curtain and used two expansion curtain rods used length wise in the skylight to diffuse the light. Make the curtain from fabric with a thickness you desire to block light and long enough to gather on the rods. I used a thin fabric one length hemmed on both long sides and gathered it as full as i liked and still have some light but really cuts down on the heat. Have used this on all our rvs and only take it down to wash the curtain. It also looks quite nice.

We use a piece of beige cloth ( an old bedsheet) between the inner and outer bubbles. Works great, and lets in some diffused light.

I took the inside dome out and cut to fit a windshield reflective protector. No velcro necessary. Replaced the inside dome with the reflective side of the foam piece facing out. Works great. Never shifts or moves. Cheap and easy.

We dropped the inner liner from the shower dome and cut a piece of window tint film from BIG BOX store (HD). Still can look out, keeps heat out too! Second 5er we've done this to.

Ditto on the window tint. Works great and is simple to install.

We used the silver quilted with velcro and it will not stick after 2yrs or so. The tinting sounds like a great idea, may try that next.

We like it completely dark, so we use the bubble wrap that is covered with silver film on each size, purchased from an RV store. Then I cut it oversized and attached it with hook and loop velcro to the perimeter of the shower dome. The velcro seemed like it would fall off since it's attached to the ceiling of the shower stall so in addition to its adhesive I also use staples, too. We did this a whole bunch of years ago and the shower area is pitch black. We also use oversized pieces in all the windows of the bedroom and it's so dark we almost sleep like hibernating bears so we need to set the alarm or we'll sleep too long.
