Smoothing Out The Ride
My 2008 3400 was a little lighter overall and a little less tongue weight. However, my 3725 has the newer suspension so I expected it to take rougher roads better. I really don't think it does. It may handle pot holes a little better but it sure doesn't seem to handle the dips better. It seems to bounce in the front more. I have tried more pressure in my air bags but that only helps so much. I generally only run with 5 to 10 gallons of fresh water. Now I am wondering if I should be keeping 40 - 50 gallons of fresh water in my tank just to keep the rear of the Montana heavier, possibly preventing as much bouncing. Any ideas?

Mor Ryde IS suspension with the amount of travel you do it may be worth the cost. we had the Mor Ryde IS on our 06 3400 and the first thing we both noticed was the "rough ride" of this 13 3402 as compared to the 06 with the Mor Ryde.

What kind of shocks are on your truck? I had excessive bounce and replaced the OEM's with Bilsteins and noticed a big difference.

Change your shocks to Bilstiens in your TV. Had same problem with my new truck, at 5k miles I changed all shocks and steering damper. Much better now.
Adding and carrying more water will make it worse due to the wave effect rolling back and forth inside the tanks. The less water the lessor the effect.

Yes. I've used Bilsteins on all 3 of my Silverados. All 4 each time.

IS and 614's seemed to solve the issue for us also.

Don't think the Bilstens will help with the trailer ride or stop its bouncing.. There are several things you got to do to make it run down the road smoothly. When I got this trailer it bounced around like a basketball. Broke a few dishes and discombobulated the frig. First get rid of the ST tires if you still have them. I have LT tires and they do help but there'e more. Get one of then suspension systems like IS or EZ Flex etc...I just have EZ Flex, it is the cheaper one but it does help....majorly... Trailer now runs along smooth and stuff stays in place...

We run with full water tank always. The truck has the Z71 package, which I believe has Bilsteins or similar as part of the package. We have the MorRyde suspension along with the MorRyde kingpin. The whole package rides great and we have broken nothing in about 16,000 miles over some of the nastiest roads this country has to offer. We have been very happy, especially since we upgraded to the G614's, which have added to the stability of the trailer. Just can't imagine a need to do anything else to the trailer or truck.

My Opinion..For those of us who are high end users, long timers/full timers the OEM suspension systems are not adequate to withstand the constant stress delivered by our infrastructure. The Mor Ryde IS system although pricy transforms the Montana into a true full time capable rig. We literally shake these things apart with the constant stress applied by running high miles down the road.
Todays price of the Mor Ryde Is Systen installed at the Mor Ryde plant is 2500/3000 $$$. That is a lot of money but IMO will save the high end user $$$ down the road in problems that will not happen.

That's why I like my TrailAir Equa-Flex equalizers and the TrailAir L05 pin box. The thing that would make the old Challenger ride nicer would be the TrailAir Tri-glide pin box. But, that will be on the next new 5er we get!

We have pulled previous Montana with an all steel pen box and observed a rough ride. We then bought a Trail Air Triglide and later had it changed to the 3725 Montana (bolt pattern fit) along with the G614 tires, and have never had anything to break in the new trailer. We adjusted both the pen box and hitch so as to get a level trailer and parallel to truck bed rails. I believe the Moryde pen box is good, but notice the Trail Air Triglide is OEM on much heavier trailers.

The Trail Airs and Moryde pin boxes will smooth out the ride for the truck and what you feel, but that will not smooth out the ride in the trailer. To smooth out the trailer ride you got to change the trailers suspension and tires....Other wise the egges will still get scrambled in the frig..

We never get eggs scrambled in the rig, and think the Trail Air must be doing something back there as we can see it working constantly in the rear view mirror. However, we do have Egg Beaters (Southwestern Style) in the fridge and they are always scrambled.

Maybe I exaggerated how bad we are bouncing. There was just some roads in California and Oklahoma, and only a few hundred miles where there were dips or the pavement was kind of washboard. On those roads I just didn't feel like the trailer was balanced out right. The new Montanas, possibly depending on what package you get, have the MOR/Ryde LRE 4100 Rubber Suspension System (heavy duty wet bolt kit with bronze bushings) plus MOR/Ryde king pin hitch. I have compared this system with the MOR/Ryde IS systems on their site and I really don't think there could be that much difference. My system allows 4" of travel. Traveling with 1/3 tank of water today up Rt. 101 in Oregon seemed to be okay but then again the road was good. At 40,000 miles on the Ford I may look into replacing the shocks though. I am sure they have taken a beating.
