Hello MOCERS...
We are looking for campground recommendations in the Beckley, WV area. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
As always, thanks a bunch!

We are currently driving toward Beckley WV and still hunting for a campground. It must not be a very popular place since we have no recommendation
This is our 49th state to visit in our RV.

There are not a lot of big-rig friendly campgrounds in that area, I wish I could help you but I am more familiar with the Charleston, Huntington area. Are you east or west bound??

Thanks Bingo. We are heading West from Virginia and then heading South to North Carolina. I just got off the phone with a very nice lady at Camp Creek State Park south of Beckley. So we will head there.

David,
We are presently (just for the one night) camping at the campground attached to the Beckley coal mine. Bingo headed up a tour to this place when we were in Hillsville but we couldn't make it so we stopped to check it out on the way to the rally in Indiana.
Pretty here, the sites are "snug" but doable. Took me 3-4 times to back in on off side but I'm a relative newbie. Cost is $22.00 a nite, 30A, water and sewer.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Jerry and Sandy,
We are at Camp Creek State Park south of Beckley. Very nice.
Elec. only and they also have Elec/Water sites. Beautiful Park and tomorrow they are having a pig roast and blue grass music.
Enjoy the rally - we can't make it this year - I'm sure it will be a good one, the Wagon Masters are doing a terrific job.

Jerry/David - Yup, it's tight there. Stayed there a couple of times. I had the most fun towing the 5ver up the hill to the sites and then on wet pavement on the way out! Take your time and have a good stay.

Ted,
Since you've been here you'll appreciate this. . . a GPS WILL lie to you!. Looking at he route it computed everything looked fine, until . . I ended up on the road above the check-in building. Had to drive thru the "do not enter" road and come in the back of the parking lot, then circle around and turn left to get to road where you ascend the steep hill. WHEW. I never seem to do things the easy way, but here I am.
Regards,
Jerry

Jerry - They don't seem to have any signs directing you to either the check-in counter or to the sites. We did the same thing! It must have taken us 20 minutes to manuver our way back and get checked-in. Once there, we had a good stay but I will look for other campgrounds in the future when I need to stay near Beckley.

I guess I saw this too late. We like Shady Rest, just east of Beckley, off I-64. We like the place. Laid back. Quiet. Not a lot of amenities like pools, etc., but we don't need that anyhow.
