Using Honda 2200 with 3791RD Help
Help I am new to running the generator with a Montana RV so today we lost electricity then I went out started my Honda generator unplugged the Rv 50 amp cable from the post put a dog bone on it to plug it in to the 30 amp connection on the generator. I assume that the RV would run off of the generator with one air conditioner some miscellaneous other items but nothing happened. I then took a small white lamp outside and plugged it into the 20amp reciprocal on the generator and it worked fine. What else do I need to do as far as prep work to get the generator to run my RV?
Thanks for the help

Thanks you for the help, I forgot to mention that I did put a grounding plug in my 20amp outlet of a generator but I also forgot to mention that I do have a inline bulldog surge protector and inline Hughes Autoformer. Is there anything else I can do?

We have had an Autoformer for years ... our Kipor generator flat doesn't like it, so we've always had to take it out of play while using a generator. You'll not have much luck trying to run an A/C off a 2200 watt generator in super hot weather even with everything else shut off. Try plugging the generator in direct to your fiver via the dogbone ... it won't hurt anything.

Is it possible that the 30 amp plug is not operative on a Honda 2200i *IF* a parallel Honda 2200i is not connected? I don't have one those models and don't know how it works.
As others have written, a Honda 2200i will have a hard time running an AC if you don't have SoftStarts and anything else turned on (like the converter).

Those references is all I have. You may need to bypass your EMS.

With a 2200 a soft start will help a bunch. I use a 3500 for mine it will run the whole rig nicely if I have the fridge and water heater on gas, thats without a soft start though. If I had one I could probably run the fridge on electric too. Check to make sure the breaker on the 30 amp plug isn't popped for some reason.

A 2200 Honda by itself will not work for what you want. We have been about a month here in Nevada running our pair of Honda's, 2000 models, one the Companion, the other the regular one, banked together. We don't have a residential fridge, but the RV fridge is on gas only as is the water heater. Only one A/C at a time, and if the microwave is needed, the A/C gets turned off. Fortunately it cools off enough at night that we can turn off one and put the other into the ECO mode. We have the Progressive hard wired EMS and the grounding plug works fine. I have a six gallon boat tank with the fittings and gas caps that feed both generators so they don't run out of gas. https://www.amazon.com/Bergs-System-.../dp/B003BURT3C

I would check with
Mike Sokol of
RVELECTRICITY FB group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/rvel...ity/?ref=share
He writes those electrical articles for RV Travel.
Many very knowledgeable people there.
They have been known to call people and walk them through troubleshooting their electrical problems.

Do you need a bonding plug for both generators when running in parallel?

No, one bonding plug is all that's needed. I use it on the companion generator, and when we don't need both running, just turn off the other genny and all is good from the companion one. And, the 30 amp outlet is always hot regardless of using just the one or with them in parallel.

Thank you to everyone who helped me. I was able to run the generator with the RV. But the sequence when hooking up is my mistake. The bonding plug must go in first then wait for generator to warm before hooking rv. But I did learn that I need a second generator to run the 15000 air.

This allows me to run a 15,000 BTU A/C with my Yamaha 2400.

For the benefit of all, I think it needs to be clarified that a soft start does not reduced the running amps of the air conditioner just the startup amp draw. A typical 15K AC draws between 12 and 14 running amps especially in this latest heat wave. At least this has been my experience.

Your generator should put out 1800 running watts. It has 2200 starting watts. My 15000 AC pulls about 1500 watts so your generator should run it without almost nothing else on. You will need a soft start to get the AC running. My 2000 watt Predator has 1600 running watts and will run my 15000 AC at least for a short period of time. I don’t know how long it will run the AC, never tried it.

We have a 2017 3791RD also. We can run 1 AC unit using our Honda EU2200i generator as long as we turn off everything else. We use a bonding plug as well. 1 AC unit pulls 14 amps while running. Get a good soft start on both ac units. Micro-Air has great soft starters and thermostats for both units. Highly recommend both.

Another thing to look out for - the converter pulls several amps if the batteries are at all down a bit. So even with nothing else on, you could be too high amps with the A/C running. Unless you just pop the breaker on the converter.
