Hi there, can anyone tell me what size socket is needed for the anode rod and also what size of pipe tap is needed to clean up the threads on the tank heater.

Be extremely cautious if you're using a pipe tap to clean the threads up. It's pretty easy to run it in too far and cut the threads out so much it will leak. If it's just old pipe dope/tape and light rust you're cleaning out, try one of these first.

They also make some that you can chuck in a battery drill. This is much safer and much cheaper.

I agree with BC. You don’t want to cut the threads any further. Just snug the tap in and out a few times to clean the surface of the threads.
