We put RV Sleep Number in Monty when living in full time. Was working in Midland/Odessa. We also reduce pressure when traveling, to often chip bag swell in mountains.
You may want to cover plywood with cheap plastic tarp to protect the mattress. I will also make it easier to make the bed. Mattress will move with ease.

We replaced the OEM mattress with a Wilderness RV mattress - RV King. They are pricey but are well worth it. Going on two years and no issues so far.

We put in an iSleep queen size air mattress. Same mattress as we have at home except our home mattress is a king size. The iSleep mattress is "built for you. You call them and they will ask a bunch of questions to build the mattress for you and your partner. Each side is bult specifically for each of you. Plus, it is an air bladder so you can fine tune it for you as often as you want or need. We opted for the queen size in the trailer to allow more walk around the bed area. We also have duel control mattress pads on the bed. The mattress is heavier that the mattress that came with the trailer. replaced the lift struts with a stronger version so that I can still open the storage compartment Easley.

Lift struts came from www.etrailer.com

We replaced our original king for a queen to get more walk around space. We opted for a Nectar which comes shrunk in a box. We like it better than the Temper Pedic we have at home. It also came with two pillows that are really nice. I think it was around $700.

We abandoned our RV mattress for one we purchased at Big Lots about 3 months after we bought the Monte. We kept it for about 6 months and took it out and put it on a guest bed in the stick and brick. We had a Sleep Number queen size on our bed so we thought "Let's give one a try in the Monte!" We went out and bought one and installed it and have had it ever since. Will never go back to any other mattress period. We did have to drill a hole in the side of the bed frame since we put the compressor in the storage area under the bed and ran the electrical cord out the side to a wall plug and a hole in at the top of the bed to run the air lines up to the mattress but that is all we needed to do for install. Since it is a queen size mattress it has two air bladders and each has its own control for firmness. A king would have the same if you want that. The only CON to the Sleep Number is that if you are traveling and increase in altitude you may have to let some air out of each side because the air expands like it does with a sealed bag of potato chips. That is they only thing and we have only had to do this once or twice during our travels with the Sleep Number. When we close the bedroom slide the mattress goes up against our dresser and no problems there for movement either. We highly recommend a Sleep Number to anyone that is looking for a new mattress for their Monte.
