Hot Water causing noticeable Hum
Hi Montana Owners, after 3 years owning our 2005 Montana 3400RL, we have just started to hear a noticeable hum when our hot water is turned on. We are not running propane currently because we are plugged into shore power. When we turn the water to cold the hum stops. There is no hum when the water is off. Might anyone else have experienced this same issue? Thank you. ~Brett

Does it hum when using every faucet or just one in particular?

I have heard noise from our water heater for a long time. Everything is working properly, and I came to the conclusion that the noise is water boiling at the electric element. As soon as the water reaches temperature and the electric is off, the noise stops. When we are where we can we can only use gas, the noise does not exist.

Probably the check-valve on the rear of the WH. Common problem.

The "check valve" that you say may be the problem... is there a DIY way to check that? Does it need replacing or adjusting?

The hum happens when the hot faucet is on in the kitchen or in the bathroom.

If it happens universally when the hot water is used then it's probably the check valve. Most likely it has something from the buildup that happens in the hot water heater getting caught and partually blocking the check valve(should wash the water heater out as well as possible at least annually and whenever the anode rod is replaced but it still can happen) if it is just in the shower it probably has to do with the shower head.
