DQDick... it was Chevy/GMC not Ford that had a fuse that needed to be installed in order to enable the trailer connector fully.

I bought my Ford with the tow option so the wiring harness was good to go. The only problem I had with my wiring was that the installer added a new 7 pin connector for connecting my fiver (the truck had a proper 7 pin connector at the bumper. I rebuilt the wiring under the truck chassis where the installer had spliced into and solved my problem. I figured it was a poor connection and I've never had a problem since.

I think starting with Irlpguy's suggestion to verify you have the proper voltage is a good start. And check those fuses, too.

Actually for the GM product it was a wire that had to be hooked up at the power center under the hood and a fuse that had to be installed in the same location.
