I don't use a bed cover so I just installed a 40 gal "DeeZee" diamond plated gravity flow in the bed. Sticks up above bed about 2" but is not a bother to me. $450.00. I am a retired trucker and was used to a 1800 mile range so the 26 gal on the truck was just not enough for me.
I have a Bak-Flip bed cover. The transfer flow 50 gal in bed tank is designed to fit under bed covers that why I got it. I'll admit Transfer flow tanks are expensive but worth it. I like their tanks and Trax 3 system.
I understand what you'e saying but I'm just not a fan of bed covers. I wouldn't have one on my truck anyway.

We have the 50 gal transfer flow installed in place of the OEM tank that was 26 gal. We really like it and it gives us the range we need for our travel plans. Everyone has their preferences and there are many choices on the market today. All in All-Keep on Traveling!

I still have the standard from factory 37.5 gal. Many times I have wished for a larger tank but never pulled the trigger for one. Now I find out about the 2017 Ford dually is coming with 48 gal as standard, equipment. That will solve a lot of problems for all us Ford DRW users. Yeah!

My first attempt with extra fuel was 2 5 gallon jugs. That got to be a chore lifting and holding them as they emptied. Spillage was sometime a problem. Transporting them sometimes worried me. Next was the 37 gallon transfer flow in-the-bed tank with the Trax 2 system. It gave me 63 total gallons. That was an excellent system but pricy. Filling the tank in the bed was sometimes a problem with the camper attached. I had to buy a small step stool to get up high enough. Most of the time I filled it after setting up on the site. It did take up room in the bed. With this system, an overloaded truck became a small concern (2500 Chevy). I then got a chance to do it all again. This time I replaced the OEM tank with a Titan 57 gallon tank. Now I have a clean bed and can fill it from the OEM fill. We just completed a 1900 mile trip to Cape Cod and Maine and it worked out extremely well.

I'm a DIY guy. Got a nice below-the-rail toolbox and mounted an RCI aluminum 19 gallon (actually only 17 gal) fuel cell in the box. Use a Chinese Holley clone fuel pump 100 gph, plumbed into the tank vent near the gas cap. Switched from the cab via a relay. eBay and craigslist. I'm into this less than $300. Woul like more capacity, but I like lots of room for tools.
