Peeling "leather" furniture

After our most recent trip, we were cleaning the inside of our 2012 Big Sky 3625RE and noticed that the "leather" furniture showed signs of cracking and peeling in places where no one sits or there is no stress on its surface. This showed up even on the sofa, bar stools, and recliners (we are not full-timers). Alarmed at this, we called Keystone owner relations and told them of the problem. We also included pictures of same and were told to take it to our closest Camping World dealer for verification. The service writer submitted his findings (he thought the damage was unusual as well) and submitted it to his warranty manager for a possible "good will" repair/replacement service. There was also a request to repair the street side baggage door that is showing signs of bubbling paint (Just all of a sudden).
This was further submitted to Keystone and was quickly refused, with no explanation. I had to call Keystone owner relations several more times just to get a answer to why I was denied. We finally received an answer that was we were out of warranty.
We have since gotten estimates of repair from some local upholsterers ranging from $3800 to $6500 to recover all above items. These people said that "this is not leather, but a vinyl product". It is advertised as leather in the brochure.
No estimate on the door yet.
We will be attending the MOC this fall and plan on introducing our problems to the Keystone techs in hopes of some consideration. I will also have copies of all communications (emails and attachments)to submit as well. My concern is that, when I buy a high-end product like a Big Sky, I expect it to last a bit longer than most. I suspect Keystone would mind if some of the money we all paid would somehow "deteriorate" from their coffers and return to our accounts.
I ask if anyone else has had their "leather" furniture deteriorate and if they had it serviced.
Thanks for listening.

that is because it is not real Leather it is called Bonded leather that is bits and pieces of scrap leather made into a pulp then stamped with a leather pattern,Montana and everybody else can legally call it "leather" because it is made of bits and piece of it,if you want REAL lather you are gonna pay a chunk of change for it,but one thing I can tell ya my 2015 Franklin brand "leather" is way nicer than My Junk Flair brand "leather' on my 2012

That's why we replaced our recliners with lazy-boys (A lot more comfortable and lighter weight) and gave the couch away to goodwill. Factory stuff is cheap furniture we knew wouldn't last!

How long will it take Keystone to stop using "bonded" leather products in their trailers? With all the complaints about this product you would think it would register with them. Not likely though, because they really don't care. Its a selling point to new buyers, but isn't helping their reputation.

I didn't realize there were many complaints about the leather

They have to draw the line on cost somewhere to stay in the price point they are in as do most other SOB's in the Montana's segment ,if you want REAL leather you better go looking at a Mobile Suites,New Horizons etc... or it is not happening,I know ALOT of folks with SOB's in Montana's price range and they all have the same "leather" just different brands

We have only had ours for 13 months, but that included six months in Florida, and it still looks new. I do wipe it down once in a while with the same stuff I use on the truck upholstery.

Hi mboyco & Others on the Forum
I'm a new-bee to this forum, but life long RVer. Our 2012 Keystone Montana 5th 3750FL has both sofa's totally de-laminating upholstery. Our rig is not overly used, and the unit has been in storage for 1 year. (Marathon, Florida) .. ( no critter damage) . The fake leather upholstery is flaking off the two front sofa's in areas that really were not stressed with wear & tear ... material is flaking apart leaving a cloth sub surface over the furniture and cushions. ( It was perfect condition when we put it into storage 1 year ago ...
I'm curious if others have reached a remedy with Keystone, or extended warranty vendors: ....( CornerStone Unlimited- Dee's RV) ??

We would like to get the fake leather "stuff" out of our rig and replace with a nice cloth upholstered couch and a couple of chairs. .. Any experience with this, or problems with the 2 front living room slide-outs ~~ in replacing with "regular" furniture? Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

Our 1017 actually has furniture we intend to keep for a while. We dumped the furniture that came with our 2010 the first month we had it. We bought the rig for the floor plan and basically were stuck with the crappy furniture. You can take the back off most furniture to get it easily in and out of the rig.

The New Horizons 5er we walked through seemed to have real leather but with the msrp beyond the horizon and in the stratosphere it was beyond what I would consider.

Bonded leather is exactly that, a polyurethane coating on top of leather pulp. There is good and bad and it all depends on the bonding agent but as with most stuff here comes the off shore manufacters to blame yet again. I use bonded leather on commercial projects and that product is rated at 250,000 double rubs which in english is heavy duty. Do not confuse ultra leather with bonded, ultra is extremely high end like 250 buckolas a yard high end and is the ultimate in high end quality vinyl. A leather hyde today is close to 800 bucks and you need three to do a moderate size chair so theres the reason for your cheap vinyl but as I said theres cheap and theres crap

Our "fake leather" furniture is now 2 1/2 years old and looks as good as it ever did. Remember its just an RV.

We have a 2013 3750Fl with the same problem. All of the fake leather furniture in the living area is deteriorating. Did y'all' have any luck with a solution to this or did you buy new furniture? If so what brand and style of furniture worked for you?

We bought a 2014 last Oct. and one of the recliners started peeling within 2months. The real Kickers is the $2000 horse crap Interior/exterior “Waranty” (non-cancelable of course) that Camping world conned us for at time of purchase. The only thing the Waranty will do is “attempt” a repair, that’s it! I am going to Camping world to cancel All other extended warranties that they conned me on as well ASAP. They gouged me for $5600for an extended warranty on the coach for 48 months! OI will be self insured from now on. Yes it is my fault for not paying closer attention, but I will remedy most of my mistake right now. And I told those shysters that I would’nt be able to travel for 3 - 4 years! Lotta good a $1100 tire warranty Is! Caveat emptor. - let the buyer beware!

Read the label on the furniture and it will tell you way it falls apart.

I agree that our furniture is not as durable as real leather but I suspect some people have a problem of "peeling" because they allow their pets to lie around on it. OK you can pile on me now.
