Sulfur odor from hot water in bathroom sink

Noticed a sulfur odor the first time we turned on the electric hot water. Totally drained out the hot water tank, refilled it and reheated it. Same problem. Anyone have a solution or similar problem?

Maybe flush/rinse the water heater out?
There is a hose attachment that makes this EZ. Also check the anode rod for buildup. Good luck!

Shut water off, drain water heater, add 1 cup chlorine bleach, let it set for 24 hours. Drain, flush, if sacrificial anode is bad, replace

We had the same problem. It turned out to be the waterlines to the preplumbed washer/dryer. We don't have the washer/dryer installed, amd the water just sits in the pipes and stagnates. I fixed it by installin shutoff valves in the lines.

The only time I've exper4ienced this, RV anti-freeze got into the hot water heater. It stinks awful when heated.

After you add bleach run it in all your faucets before letting it sit. Drain, fill with fresh,flush system,should be good to go. You should smell a wiff of bleach so you know it is thru the lines.

Another solutions is drain tank add 50/50 White Viniger and water you can suck out of the Viniger bottles just like the pink stuff when you winterize.Turn on water heater let sit for about an hour
Turn off Let it cool I run the solution through the water lines into the tank.give the tank a good flush with the wand.I think a lot safer then bleech!

In a home electric water heater that's a sign the anode rod is shot.

As scattershot said, check the washer water lines first and drain. This is an oft reported problem and typically is stagnant water in the washer lines.

Stagnant water and a chemical reaction between minerals in the water and the anode. Happened in my neighbors 33' Reflection and even happened in our house. A water softener will also help.

The only thing that everyone forgot to say is that before you go to drain the hot water tank is to make sure both of the switches for electrical heating of the water are turned off. IF you drain that tank and leave those switches on you will be replacing the heating coil also. May be a notable thing that all should know BUT many forget about it and burn out that coil and it takes less than a minute to do it! Don't ask my how I know!

Do you have a rig with a washer/dryer cabinet in the bedroom at the front of the 5er, ....and no washer/dryer installed?

If so, flush the stagnant water out of the W/D lines and I bet you will find the stinkiest water that you have ever smelled in your life. Hook up an old garden hose (not your good fresh water hose) to the W/D faucets, one at a time, and run it to the shower or outside, and flush them out.

I had the problem once. When I turned on the bathroom faucet it would draw some of the stinky water out of those lines as the water flow went past those dead-end lines. I flushed the W/D lines, and the stink was gone.

Soon after that, I disconnected the W/D lines from the plumbing system, capped them off with 1/2" Flair-It caps, and have never had the stinky bathroom sink problem again.

Heartily concur on washing machine lines being my culprit! Now I have to get in there and cap them off under the sink.
