Leather recliner
We have a 2012 3100RL with the leather sofa and recliners. The leather on one of the recliners is flaking off the front. No rips no holes just flaking off the backing. The 5er has been stored in an enclosed building since we bought it. We keep the shades down as we travel so I don't think sunlight is the problem. We have not used the camper that much in 3 years to wear out a leather chair. Our extended warranty does not cover furniture. Has anyone else had this problem? Ken and Pat

Yep on our 2012 the recliners went downhill quick and they were garbage to begin with they are made by Flair industries, the last straw was when the pull cables broke for the 3rd time and I got rid of them and got Lazy Boy's problem solved on our 2015 Montana changed to Franklin brand recliners and Sofa...MUCH NICER!!!!

The leather is reconstructed. It's ground up glued back together to make the finished product. It not hard to believe this could happen.

I donated my uncomfortable, non fully-reclining, leaning-to-one-side leather recliners to an animal rescue thrift shop and couch for that matter and bought a jack knife sofa for the rear and one "real" recliner.

The "leather" the OP speaks of is bonded leather. It's as close as you can get to vinyl and still be called leather. It's cheap crap. Sorry, no other way to call it.

Strange as it is. The more work you do to leather the less it cost. Reconstructed you do the most work to and it cost the least. The good stuff you do almost nothing to after it is tanned and it cost the most.

Have anyone considered filing a lawsuit for fault advertisement concerning the alleged and advertised leather recliners and sofa? I am considering at least filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Your comments and recommendations are welcomed.

From the page below: "Little known fact, you can also mix up dog poop with flour and water, press it flat and let it dry in the sun for about two days and get a bonded leather equivalent. Genuine and bonded leather is usually spray-painted to look like full or top grain leather. Watch out!!!"

Leather chairs started as crap and ended in the garbage can, they were too bad to even donate to charity after one year. I replaced with Lazy Boy recliners that do not swivel or rock and they are great. Fairly lightweight and easy to move for travel. I hate to say it but Montana should be embarassed by the product they sold as leather.

Its not just Montana using bonded leather in their furniture its basically everyone except for a few real high end manufacters. A leather hide costs me around 5-600 per hide wholesale and a chair will use 2-3 hides so when you see a 300 dollar leather recliner guess what. Some of the leather match (leather where you sit and touch and vinyl outside) pieces have lots of smaller pieces sewn together that allows them to laser cut many hides to get the most out of a hide by mixing and matching. I have the same stuff in my Montana as you guys and when its done I will do the same as you have and switch it out with a better product. Imagine a new yacht owner spending over a mil on a new yacht and I have to completely reupholster and put new mattresses in because the stuff is so poor, I do about 6 a year. Small consolation I know but its the way its done now for profit margins let your mind run wild thinking of the next cost cutting move in the industry.
